As BJP prefers power to conviction; Bar, Chamber fill up Jammu's leadership vacuum

Early Times Report
Jammu, May 26: With BJP of late concerned only with keeping its coalition intact for the lust of power and Panther party having lost the trust of the people, Bar Association Jammu (BAJ) and Chamber of Commerce and industry (CCI) have assumed upon themselves the role of voicing the sensitivities of Jammu region.
BJP which came to power for the first time claiming to be champion of the cause of Jammu province has suddenly turned more concerned over maintain its truck with the PDP which represents the voice of Kashmir, so that the marriage of ideological discord can go on. The statements of its leaders who once hit the roads frequently for the cause of Jammu region and now occupy high chairs in the government have shaken the faith of the people of Jammu that they reposed in it till just a few months back.
Panthers on the other hand have completely lost the ground after the party failed to get a single seat in the last Assembly elections. The trio of Harsh Dev, Yashpal Kundal and Balwant Mankotia are trying hard to regain the lost ground, but it will take time before they can claim to represent the people of any region within Jammu province.
BJP's stand on the vital issues of settlement of West Pakistan refuges, Composite townships for KP migrants, Article 370, AIIMS, Artificial lake at Tawi and few more has reflected the party's leadership in poor light and party has seemed surrendering to the arm twisting of its coalition partner PDP. The untimely and uncalled for statements on certain instances and stoic silence at the others of its leaders has aggravated the feeling of breach of trust by the BJP.
In the given scenario, BAJ and CCI have latched on to the available leadership space and have effectively been raising the issues close to hearts of common Jammuites. Both these organizations have previously been rendering support to the political parties who generally led the ventilation of Jammu's dissent, but of late, they have been leading the charge. The role played by both these organizations during the prolonged agitation following Shri Amaranth land row that was spearheaded by the Shri Amaranth Yatra Sangharsh Samiti (SAYSS), wherein heavy losses were incurred by the business community in particular was applauded by the people of Jammu.
Though many amongst these two organizations have pursued political ambitions in the past, today's bandh call in Jammu is yet another inference of the fact that Jammu has refused to be led by the political parties alone.
