Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 21: Kashmiri Pandits today renewed their demand for the pilgrimage to world famous Sharda Shrine situated on the banks of river Neelam in Athmuqam tehsil of Muzaffrabad in PoK. In this connection the KPs have also urged the Union Government to take up the issue forcefully with Pakistan Government.
The demand was made at a function organized by Sanjeevani Sharda Kendra, Anand Nagar Bohri which was held in connection with celebration of Sharda Ashtami today.
The demand was made by renowned KP scholar, Dr K N Pandita while addressing a well attended function on the occasion. Dr Pandita while making a reference to the holy Sharda Shrine which is now under the forcible occupation of Pakistan said that the Shrine be opened for the Hindu pilgrims from the State and rest of the country as the Sharda is the presiding deity and the sentiments of the Hindus all over the globe are attached to this holy shrine which is also the Goddess of knowledge and wisdom.
It may be recalled that the Kashmiri Hindus for last two decades have been pressing hard to Government of India that the Hindus from the State be permitted to have the pilgrimage of Sharda shrine on the same pattern as is being done for Sikh pilgrims visiting Nankana Sahib the birth place of Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj in Pakistan.
The demand gained momentum after the Government of India and Pakistan opened two trade routs between J&K and PoK in 2005. Though the people of majority community from the State were allowed to visit PoK and members of Muslim community from PoK were allowed to visit J&K, the Hindus from the State are still craving for fulfillment of their demand by the governments of India and Pakistan. The demand was raised by the Hindu community from State at various foras.
However the Government of India as well as the State Government did not give any credence to the demand knowing fully that the Sharda is the presiding deity of the Hindus and one of the famous Hindu shrines in Sub Continent.
Sources said the Sanjeevani Sharda Kendra was established with the objective to launch a forceful movement to open the Sharda temple for Hindu pilgrims. However no headway has been made in this regard till date, sources added.
Sources said that a group of Hindus from the State has also pleaded before the Union Government to ask Pakistan to handover the control of Shrine to India so that the Hindu pilgrims can have a hassle free annual pilgrimage to that part of Kashmir.
