Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, June 14: The bullet-riddled body of an army jawan, who was abducted by militants, was found in south Kashmir's Pulwama on Thursday, police said.
Rajouri resident Aurangzeb was posted in the militant stronghold of Shopian in south Kashmir. He was abducted from Kalampora area in Pulwama and was proceeding on leave for Eid, officials said earlier on Thursday.
He belongs to 4 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry and was posted with the 44 Rashtriya Rifles camp at Shadimarg in Shopian, they said. At about 9 am on Thursday, army men from the unit stopped a car asking the driver to drop Aurangzeb in Shopian, officials said, recounting what had happened.
Militants stopped the vehicle as it approached Kalampora and abducted the jawan. Police are investigating the case. The Army is also conducting an inquiry into the incident, they said.
Meanwhile mother of Indian Army jawan Aurangzeb, who has been killed by terrorists, had appealed for the release of her son. Making the appeal Aurangzeb's mother said, "Allah ke liye usey chhod do, uske saath Eid manana chahti hun main (please leave my son, I want to celebrate Eid with him).
Unmarried among 10 siblings of Haneef r/o Salani village in Mendhar tehsil is posted with 44 RR in South Kashmir and was on way to home to celebrated Eid festival with the family.
Haneef said at about 3 am he talked to Aurenzeb who informed that he will leave for home after Sehri at about 7 am and since then no contact has been made with him as his mobile is switched off.
According to Kashmir police Aurenzeb left Shadimarg camp and boarded a private vehicle for Shopian town for his forward journey to Mendhar but was kidnapped on way near Kalampora on Mughal road by the militants.
After the matter was reported to police reportedly by the vehicle driver alert was sounded and all the area was cordoned but without any success till late evening hours. Aurangzeb's family has had the history of serving Indian armed forces. While his father retired from the Indian Army, his uncle had died in the line of duty fighting terrorists in 2004. The jawan's brother is also an Indian Army soldier.
Aurangzeb, who was a part of the Army team that killed Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Sameer Tiger in Pulwama district in May, was travelling onboard a bus and headed towards his home when he was abducted.
