Infiltration bid foiled, Army say it killed two Pakistani soldiers in Tanghdar Sector

KUPWARA, Aug 14: Indian Army on Tuesday claimed to have killed two Pakistani soldiers in "retaliatory action" in Tangdhar sector of north Kashmir's Kupwara district.
"In retaliatory action to unprovoked ceasefire violations and repeated attempts to facilitate infiltration by Pakistan Army in Tangdhar Sector, own troops carried out calibrated operations last night in which two Pakistani soldiers were killed," said Srinagar-based defense spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia, in a statement.
Earlier, an official said the Pakistan troops violated ceasefire by targeting Indian army's Anil post, Cheetak Post, and Black Rock post with small arms along the LoC at around 7:15 am.
The soldiers manning these posts returned the fire effectively, he said.
0ertinently, two Indian soldiers were killed in separate incidents along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir during the past 24 hours.
Sepoy Pushpendra Kumar was critically injured after he received a bullet in Tanghdar area of Kupwara district.
However a top police official said that on Monday morning an infiltration bid was foiled in Tangdhar sector.
In exchange of firing one army jawan was critically injured and was rescued to the hospital, the official said.
The official further said that the jawan had received a sniper shot and was critically injured. In the afternoon he succumbed to his injuries,"
The deceased has been identified as Pushpinder Singh of 20 Jat regiment.
Meanwhile army pays tribute to soldier killed in Tanghdar operation
A senior army official told ET that on Tuesday army paid tribute to Sepoy Pushpendra Singh who was killed during Counter Infiltration operations on 13 Aug in Tangdhar Sector of North Kashmir's Kupwara district.
In a solemn ceremony at BB Cantt, Lt Gen AK Bhatt, Chinar Corps Commander and all ranks, paid homage to the slain soldier.
In a show of solidarity, representatives from other security agencies also joined in to pay their last respects to the slain soldier.
Sepoy Pushpendra Singh sustained bullet injury during the gun battle at Tangdhar, Kupwara district. He was provided immediate first aid and evacuated to the 92 Base Hospital, but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
It is learnt that the mortal remains of slain sepoy were flown to his native place for last rites.
