For 1 chair of CM, 3 aspirants from Kashmir
8/14/2018 11:29:31 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 14: Even as senior Bharatiya Janta Party leader Ram Madhav said the BJP would be part of next government in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, names of at least three aspirants for the chair of Chief Minister are doing the rounds in the political circles of Kashmir.
While the name of separatist-leader-turned Sajjad Gani Lone had already been there, reports had suggested that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was likely to put weight behind its veteran leader and Member Parliament Muzaffar Hussain Baig for a prospective third innings with the BJP.
While the names of these two leaders had already been in news, sources said one more PDP leader was also lobbying hard that he be projected as the prospective CM in alliance with the BJP.
This leader in question was already accused of having such aspirations even in 2016 after the demise of Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed Sayeed.
Sources said the PDP top brass has taken "a serious note of the aspirations" of its leaders to be the CM when the high command is yet to formally announce whether nor not the party would cobble up a fresh alliance with the BJP.
Sources said PDP President Mehbooba Mufti was shocked learn that apart from the rebel faction headed by Imran Reza Ansari, there were leaders in her party who want to go against her wishes.
"Frankly speaking, they (rebel faction) openly rebelled and made their stand clear but what is pinching is that some of us who claim to be loyal to the party high command have been working on some secret agendas but remains hidden in Kashmir," said a senior PDP leader on the condition of anonymity.
While the rebel faction of the PDP is supporting Sajjad Lone as the prospective candidate to be the next CM, there had a come a twist in the story when reports surfaced that Mehbooba may try for another innings with the BJP with Baig as the CM. But now there are reports that another PDP leader also aspires for the chair.
On August 11, senior BJP leader and point man on Kashmir Ram Madhav said his party would be part of the new government in the state.
The remarks by Madhav, who is in-charge of the party's affairs in the state, came months after the BJP pulled out of its alliance with the PDP in Jammu and Kashmir.
"I say with confidence that whenever the government is again formed in Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP will be a part of it," Madhav said, adding that the "jinx is broken".
Madhav said when the BJP comes back to power, it would work towards taking Jammu and Kashmir to a new direction. Talking about the coalition government that collapsed in June, Madhav said there were difficulties, but despite that, some things were achieved.
