| KVK Poonch observes World Soil Day | | |  Early Times Report
Poonch, Dec 5: Krishi Vigyan Kendra Poonch, under the patronage of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu, in collaboration with Department of Agriculture, Poonch celebrated World Soil Day today at KVK campus in a befitting manner. The day has been celebrated all over the world to connect farmer with soils and raise awareness on their critical importance in our lives. The celebration was attended by more than 100 farmers and 25 Officers from Line Department from every nook and corner of the district. Dr. Ajay Gupta , Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK Poonch explained the importance of celebration of 'World Soil Day as soils provide plants with essential minerals and nutrients. The individuals across the globe are celebrating World Soil Day to recognize how healthy soils are vital for the future of the food system and a sustainable planet, he said. He stated that healthy soils are important for food and nutritional security and for a healthy life. He informed that the theme of this year's World Soil Day is: 'Be the solution to soil pollution'. Chief Agriculture Officer, Inderjeet Singh emphasised upon the importance of soil in agricultural productivity and highlighted the need for regular testing of soils for optimum use of chemical fertilizers and better soil management practices in the district. |
