Let Governor pull up state administration for laxity in ensuring power supply
2/13/2019 10:51:42 PM
The Kashmir Economic Alliance,
an amalgam of various trade bodies, has flayed the state over non-clearance of snow in the interiors and inconvenience caused due to waterlogged roads. In fact it has been the worst ever winter in Kashmir with national highway remained snow bound for seven days thereby causing lost of inconvenience to stranded passengers. It is for another time that the IAF has come to the rescue of stranded passengers and has lifted several hundred passengers, who were stranded in Jammu, and dropped them in Srinagar. The worst phase facing the people is interrupted power and water supply. The water pipes are congealed. While the NHPC has suspended power supply because of the breakdown in the system after series of poles and electricity wires dropped dead because of the weight of snow. And the problem is being faced by people in he Jammu region. The PDD has not been able to supply uninterrupted power to the consumers in Jammu. There are areas where he PDD officials spoil the show and people have to suffer prolonged cuts.
Though snow was cleared from the main roads, it is still accumulated in the interiors of rural and urban areas which has caused inconvenience to residents. Business activities have also taken a backseat especially due to waterlogging and muddy roads at several markets. It is unfortunate that after the shifting of the Durbar to Jammu, the Kashmir region has been neglected by the state," said alliance vice-chairman Aijaz Shahdhar. He said the authorities should ensure clearance of snow from the interiors and also take steps to remove waterlogging. "The authorities should ensure that the snow gets cleared. As lanes in most of the interiors are narrow, at places the snow has been accumulated on the sides of the roads making it difficult for vehicles to pass. Similarly, several areas are facing waterlogging and streets have turned muddy. Unfortunately, no long-term measures have been taken to address the problem.
In fact the authorities should have made adequate arrangements for clearing the snow and prevent eletric poles from dropping dead with the weight of snow. And supply of power during these winter days is essential and no Government can face the problem when it is faced with the Assembly election. However, this time there is no elected Government and the Governor should direct the Army, the BSF and IAF to render public service and if S.P. Malik comes to the rescue of people he will be remembered even after the elected Government assumes power. But hitherto the Governor has remained unmoved by the problems facing the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Possibly he should act against those managing the road clearance duties, water and power supply and if he does there may be some skeletons hidden in the cupboard of the state administration. Why power supply in Jammu is not assured when the here is no weather problem in the region? The Governor should approach the centre for supply of additional power to Jammu.
