Profanity- fashion of modern day politics
2/14/2019 11:00:05 PM

Jamwal Mahadeep Singh

Profanity is socially of
fensive language, which may also be called curse words, swear words, crude language, coarse language, blasphemous language vulgar language etc. Profane words are reflection of emotional states, like anger, fear or passion. They're the words that provoke the most repressive regulatory reactions. It gets encoded differently in the brain. It's learned differently. It's articulated differently. It changes differently over time. And that lends it the unique potential to reveal facts about ourselves. The monster of profanity has now-a-days occupied the political space to a large extent and without caring the position, these leaders are occupying, they feel proud to use the next available ever vulgar word against their political opponents and in the exercise many wrapped in saffron and projecting themselves as 'saint' and 'Sadhvis' associated with political parties are floating in the same dirty water. These people take vulgarity as garlic in the 'salad' of taste. This fraternity does not take their profanity as vulgar merely because it has become a common feature among them.
Nothing is more exhilarating than philistine vulgarity - Vladimir Nabokov. It takes two sides to make a deal, two sides to negotiate and two sides to make it go bad. In the present cycle, we have BJP and Congress in the boxing ring that is at daggers drawn in efforts to throw each other out of the ring in 2019. Both are over busy on uncultured and vulgarious word-war. It is better to increase ones profile than demoting and slandering others. When we slander people, they have two ways to fight back - with their fists and guns, or their mouths. And mouths are seemingly the easiest way that has been adopted by the political parties without realizing they are on treasury benches or in opposition. The vulgarity from opposition can be attributed as their frustration but when the same verbosity trickles from Prime Minister and his cabinet colleagues and from the lawmakers of ruling party, it becomes a matter of much concern. "In low intelligent ignorant societies, the clever are denigrated and the stupid are belauded, the brainy are stoned and the dull are held in high esteem!" - Mehmet Murat ildan.
Language is a major form of communication to convey through words, a person's idea, perceptions vision, etc. Astute leader like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Lal Bhadur Shastri have proved how effectively one can influence people by judicious use of political communication. The criss-cross navigation of vulgarity from BJP camp take us to the era, when Mr. Modi happens to be the CM of the Gujarat. Mr. Modi a tall PM and the BJP cannot claim moral, cultural, and political high ground. Their continuous flow of verbosity emanating from the BJP camp is not a social package but a bag of below dignity narration. Its leaders have frequently described Sonia Gandhi as "barmaid" or "waitress". We observe persons as a simple man who pretends to have no inferiority complex about his lack of education, and even more amazing pretend to have no superiority complex because they had succeeded despite that lack and present dispensation full of such souls. The remarks of Mr. Modi as of 'Jersi cow', 'Congress ki Vidhwa', for Mdm. Sonia, 'Hybrid Bachchda' for Rahul Gandhi and Giriraj Singh's remarks of 'white skinned woman' for Mdm. Sonia are some of the examples that speaks of the qualification of the high senses of the BJP's high ranking leaders. Here we have to believe the words of John Ruskin, a leading English art critic of the Victorian era, as well as a prominent social thinker and a writer on variety of subjects that 'the higher a man stands, the more the word vulgar becomes unintelligible to him'. The ideological predecessor of BJP often used to ridicule and undermine the stature of the then PM Smt. Indira Gandhi as a "widow", as well as mocking her by referring to her sleeveless blouses, her 'bob cut' hairdo, and by calling her "non-matriculate". That was in the sixties, and one would've thought that over the years, there would be some political maturity. Tracking the same line of BJP, the Congress too has adopted the way of vulgar language to hit back. Chaiwala "Neech", Yamraj, Maut ka Saudagar, Gandi Nali Ka Keeda, illiterate, chor are some of the worst packages doled out from Congress taking jibe at PM.
Mr. Modi since the time of campaigning for the 2014 elections till date, about the logic for other main stream political parties, apart from his achievements as PM, can very safely be arrived at single point narrative well in synchronization with his trusted lieutenant Mr. Amit Shah, and that is all time vouchsafing the Congress for plundering the country during its 55 years rule and to completely route it away from the political competitiveness and at the same time enterprise himself as the only divinity, who has transformed the India to a situation that equalize to the status of the heaven, forgetting that the country has rolled back in his tenure to a position of 44 from 27 in 2014 in democratic index of the nations and India is the world's most dangerous country for women due to the high risk of sexual violence and being forced into slave labor, according to a poll of global experts.
We cannot sideline the scams that emerged during Congress Rule, but at the same time the facts required to be kept in mind that in democratic set up, the voters decide the acceptance or rejection of a political party and not all time negative vocalization of a politician or any political party. The election results recently from Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh are the best examples of it. These were the same voters who elected Mr. Modi to power, that have preferred Congress to rule them for 55 years. Much talked best governance of Vajpayee was rejected by the voters the very next occasion they got to over throw it, although through the eye-glasses of BJP, India was shining. The BJP has moved it to use disheveled language right from PM to last sympathizer of BJP in the street and Congress too has indulged in the same game and such are the people worried that artificial intelligence will make them feel inferior. Here come the words of Helen Simpson "Men conscious of inferiority are always trying to impose themselves on others, because they know that underneath they are cowards or cretins." To gain the popularity in 2014, Mr. Modi has used holographic technology to reach every nook and corner of the country. Prior to it he was generally but less known person who was denied a visa to enter the United States in 2005 on religious-freedom grounds. And Many times we have seen Mr. Modi, reaching the voters throughout the country simultaneously addressing election rallies in 2014 using holographic technology. Senthil Kumar, a cinematographer was instrumental in shooting Modi's speeches using 3D holographic technology so that hundreds of thousands of people can see and hear him at a hundred locations using satellites. How relentlessly he campaigned to be India's next prime minister and often appeared, magically, to have addressed several rallies throughout the country. The campaign was more a psychological torture and brain washing of voters rather than awareness among voters to vote for reasonable candidate mingled with bombardment of many lucrative commitments that are now haunting as ghost of the fake promises. In this age of affirmative action and heightened ethnic as well as class and caste sensitivities, it has become extremely important to be politically and culturally correct. The political bickering has crossed all limits for the past sometime and none has shown any maturity in their addresses. The degeneration of political or cultural idiom is now universal. Silly words cause trills because they're ludicrous and hurtful. I like to cite here that this type of verbosity both from BJP and Congress are the myths created by politicians and in the words of Rollo Reese May, an American psychologist and a renowned author, "A myth is a way of making sense in a senseless world. Myths are narrative patterns that give significance to our existence." Sensible citizenry has taken the remarks of both BJP as well as of Congress as from uncultured persons. We have to recognize that every person plays the lead role in the movie of their own lives. Those aspiring to rule over 130 crores populations must be careful, cautious, and considerate but our political class lacks these simple etiquettes. The parties may claim of their expansion in the political base, disseminated information through mobile phones, spread education far and wide, but they remain culturally backward. It also proves the psychology of the politicians that basic instincts never die down with the position and they are profaning the ethic values of politics.
