Omar says Farooq revoked ban on JeI
NC, Faesal relationship turns sour
3/7/2019 11:35:26 PM
Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Mar 7: The relationship between National Conference and Shah Faesal seems to have turned sour with Omar Abdullah targeting the former bureaucrat ahead of elections.
In January this year, Faesal resigned from services saying he took the decision over killings in Kashmir.
Speculations about his joining the NC were rife. Omar also welcomed him to the `fold' in one of his tweets. He was seen as a probable NC candidate from North Kashmir parliamentary constituency.
Even Faesal praised Omar during the press conference.
"Omar is a gracious and supported me. Omar is a leader, who has been guiding me. The NC never approached me but I went to Omar for suggestions," he had said.
However as Faesal has decided to float own party, the relations seem to have turned sour ahead of assembly and parliamentary polls.
"Why third front is being formed only in Kashmir not in Ladakh and Jammu. Even young people float own political parties. It seems it is being done deliberately," Omar said in his address to party workers on Thursday. He was referring to young bureaucrat turned political Shah Faesal, who wants to float his own party.
Omar Abdullah said his grandfather Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah had predicted that there would be a political party in every street in the valley to divide Kashmiris.
"We have to be united and speak in one voice. People have to strengthen the National Conference. We have to defeat those elements who want to weaken our voices under a conspiracy," he added.
A National Conference leader said they were expecting Faesal to join the National Conference. "As he has decided to float own party, the NC leaders will also target him. That is why Omar on Thursday targeted Faesal for floating own party," the NC leader said, wishing anonymity.
Even Faesal has stopped praising Omar Abdullah since he decided to float own party. He has been critical of all politicians of the valley.
Hailing from Lolab - a picturesque valley in the frontier district of Kupwara - the 35-year-old was a doctor before qualifying for civil services exams.
Omar also claimed that ban on Jamiet-e-Islami would further deteriorate the situation in the state. "Arrests are being made under a conspiracy. It won't help Kashmir. There was ban on JeI in 1990 but that did not help in improving the situation, which later was revoked by Farooq Abdullah in 1996. We might have differences with JeI but ban won't benefit the state," he said.
