Munish Gupta visits Digiana, listens to woes of people
Mass Contact Programme Continues
6/17/2019 11:14:42 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 17: Editor Early Times, Munish Gupta, who would be contesting the forthcoming Assembly election as Independent candidate from Gandhi Nagar Assembly constituency on Monday conducted an extensive tour of Green Avenue and Dashmesh Nagar localities of Digiana as a part of his mass contact programme.
During his visit to these localities, the residents informed Munish Gupta about the basic problems being faced by them particularly poor sanitation, dilapidated roads, lanes and by-lanes choked drains besides the problem of leakage of water supply pipes.
The people said that potholed lanes and by-lanes and clogged drains said have become an eyesore for the locals but redressal to these problems is nowhere in sight.
Ravinder Kour of Sector-3, Green Avenue, told Munish Gupta that the lane leading to her residence is in shambles for the last 10 years or so but nobody from the concerned authorities has bothered to get it repaired adding that face-lifting of lanes and drains will be more than enough for the residents of the area.
"The blacktopping of our lane was last carried out in 2008 thereafter it was never taken up. The other lanes are also in pathetic condition as they have developed pot holes which are causing regular mishaps, however, the authorities are least bothered for the improvement of lanes in the area," said Ravinder Kour.
While another resident of Sector-3, Green Avenue, Jagjeet Kour said that the area is grappling with the problem of leaking water supply pipes adding that despite making repairs of the pipes on several occasion, they again develop leakage.
Several inhabitants of the area informed that pathetic condition of lanes and drains is a major cause of concern for them adding that those lanes which were blacktopped years ago are in bad shape while there are several other lanes which still need to be mettled.
"Besides roads and drains, the residents of the area are also facing problem of irregular water supply. We approached the PHE authorities to ensure proper water supply but nothing has been so far," said Charanjeet Singh of Sector-3, Green Avenue.
Another local Krishan Lal of Sector-3, Green Avenue said that water supply pipes have not been laid upto his residence due to which his family is facing huge scarcity of water.
While there were few inhabitants of Dashmesh Nagar, who originally hail from Srinagar and migrated to Jammu, complained of not being registered as voters here.
Satwant Kour and Gurcharan Singh were those unfortunate residents who informed Munish Gupta that despite putting up here for decades now, they are not entitled to cast votes as their names have not been enrolled in the voters' lists despite making repeated tries.
One of the residents of Dashmesh Nagar, Bimla Devi, raised the issue of non-functional street lights and unhygienic conditions in the locality.
"Though there is provision of street lights in our locality but most of them are out of order. We carry a torch to move out during late evening hours. It seems we are living in an era where there is no light in streets. Moreover, no Safaikaramchari comes here to pick waste. We are facing problems due to poor sanitation and sewerage system," said Bimla Devi.
