Ousted PDP leader secretly campaigns for Farooq Abdullah

SRINAGAR, Apr 16: In a significant development, a senior politician who was ousted from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been "secretly campaigning" for National Conference patron Dr Farooq Abdullah who is the NC's candidate for Srinagar constituency seat in the Parliament.
Sources said the former PDP leader, who enjoys his "influence" in one particular Assembly constituency in Srinagar, has asked his supporters to vote for Dr Abdullah alone.
Sources said in the past few days the former PDP leader in question held a serious of political meetings with his supporters in the city asking them to treat Dr Abdullah as their leader for the Parliament seat. Sources said he held most of the meetings at his private residence.
Sources said the said leader even told his supporters that they should encourage each and everyone known to them to vote for Dr Abdullah.
Sources said the leader looks ahead to help Dr Abdullah get over 5000 votes from his supporters.
Sources said the leader has been enjoying good relations with the NC for the past around six months when he was even yet to be sacked from the PDP.
Sources said that time he was in touch with the NC on behalf of PDP and was looking ahead to head government with support of the rival party.
Though the Governor subsequently dissolved the Assembly, the leader in question ended up being sacked from the party.
Sources said even though he is unlikely to join NC, he wants to maintain good relations with the Abdullahs.
"Basically his sole aim this time is to teach PDP a lesson and thus wants to show his influence in the public circles to the PDP this time as well," said a source in know of the matter.
Despite repeated attempts the politician in question couldn't be contacted for comments.
