Jammu, Mar 27: Kaushala Devi, a 60-year-old patient, is battling for her life at Government Medical College Jammu due to alleged medical negligence at a private nursing home.
Family members of Kaushala Devi while talking to Early Times said that their ordeal began when a doctor from Sunderbani Hospital purportedly directed them to seek treatment for their mother at a private hospital. He even assured us that an Ayushman card is accepted there.
However, days before the scheduled operation at the private hospital, the family was informed that the Ayushman card was no longer valid.
The doctor allegedly demanded Rs. 80,000 for the operation, causing immense financial strain on the family. After performing the surgery the doctor claimed that necessary facilities are not available at the private hospital and patient need to be shifted to GMC Jammu.

They said since the day the patient has been admitted at GMC Jammu she continues to be on ventilator. “Our mother is critical and the doctor who operated upon her in a private hospital has switched off the phone and he has become inaccessible,” they added.
When contacted Medical Superintendent, GMC Jammu while talking to Early Times said, “The patient was brought here in a critical condition and she is on ventilator. Every effort is being put to save her life.” |
