Rains lash plains; light snowfall

Srinagar, Apr 26: Kashmir plains experienced rains while some higher reaches received a fresh light snowfall bringing down the day temperature and disrupting normal life on Friday.
Srinagar and some other weather stations of Kashmir valley including Pahalgam and Gulmarg received light rainfall on Friday plummeting the day temperature by a few degrees forcing people and tourists to wear warm clothes.
Some higher reaches including Tulail Valley, Sinthan Top, Peer Ki Gali, Zojila Pass, and Razdan Top received a fresh light snowfall on Friday, an independent forecaster, Kashmir Weather, said.
The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has predicted light to moderate rain/snow (higher reaches) at many places with heavy rain coupled with thunder, lightning, and Hailstorm at isolated places during the next 24 hours.
There is a possibility of light to moderate rain/snow (light snow over higher reaches) at most places with thunder, lightning, Hailstorm and gusty winds at a few places with the possibility of heavy rain over isolated places of Jammu & Kashmir during April 28 & 29th. Light rain with thunder at scattered places can occur on April 30, it said.
The weather in general will remain dry from May 1 to 5, the MeT office said.
Farmers have been advised to suspend farm operations from April 26, while traffic on higher reaches including Zojila, Sinthan Pass, Mughal Road, and Razdan Pass may be disrupted due to the inclement weather during the period.
The low-lying areas can also witness water logging and there is the possibility of landslides and shooting stones on higher reaches. There is a possibility of a temporary increase in water level in river Jehlum and its tributaries and Nallas also due to rainfall.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a maximum temperature of 23.0 degrees Celsius against 25.0 degrees Celsius recorded the previous day, the MeT office said.
