Employees 2- day strike begins, state-wide protests held at district headquarters | | | Et Report
JAMMU, Sept 9: Despite the abnormal situation in Kashmir Valley where two districts have been put under curfew after recent killing in Shopian in South Kashmir, the J&K Employees Joint Coordination Committee (EJCC) will go ahead with its two day strike call on September 10 and 11. The employees owing allegiance to JCC today staged massive demonstrations in Jammu region and other parts of Kashmir Valley in support of their demanding barring Shopian and Kulgam districts of South Kashmir which have been put under curfew following the killings in Shopian two days back. The EJCC which earlier was undecided whether to go for its two days strike programme from tomorrow in view of Kashmir situation is under constant pressure from various employees organisations to go ahead with the decision and not break the tempo of the agitational programme. The JCC leaders who met here to decide the situation and take future course of action have also decided to go ahead with strike call for two days and forcefully put forward the employees demands in the light of the agreement signed by JCC and Government earlier. The employees under the banner of JCC held massive demonstrations at district headquarters at Jammu including in front of Divisional Commissioner's office at Panama Chowk here. The employees shouting slogans in support of their demands warned to intensify the agitation in case the agreement was not implemented in letter and spirit. The JCC senior leader and president National Trade Union Front (NTUF) Mohammed Gafoor Dar warned the Government not to test the patience of the employees. He warned to intensify the agitation in case the agreement was not implemented and blamed the Government of side tracking the employees burning issues. He also strongly condemned the police lathicharge and sprinkling of water canon on the employees who had assembled at Sher-e-Kashmir Park Srinagar to protest in support of their demands on the call of JCC. He warned that Government can't crush the voice of working class by using force and urged the employees to strengthen the JCC to take the issue forcefully with the Government. The JCC leaders who addressed the demonstration at Jammu included Ganesh Khajuria, S Amrik Singh, S Kulwant Singh, Shahid Hussian, Darshan Singh, Jagdish Raj, Tanweer Hussain, Rajinder Kumar and S Vikramjit Singh. The employees are demanding retirement age to 60 years, regularisation of daily rated workers , framing a policy for regularisastion of daily wagers, redressal of grievances of clas fourth employees, ReTs, Anganwari workers, removal of pay anomalies and redressal of the demands of PSU employees . Dar and other JCC leaders appealed the employees to make the two days strike call a total success and be ready for protracted struggle. |
