Early Times Report THANNAMANDI, June 6: The Department of Botany of Govt. Degree College Thannamandi in collaboration with Department of Social Forestry Thannamandi conducted week-long activities to celebrate World Environment Day as part of Viksit Bharat@47 and mission LiFE here today. On this occasion week-long environmental conservation activities including massive plantation cum cleanliness drive on the theme "Beat Plastic Pollution." organized under the patronage of Prof. (Dr.) Farooq Ahmed, Principal of College. Dr. Ashaq Malik, Head Department of Botany and IQAC Co-ordinator in College, Co-ordinated the drives. While speaking on the occasion, Prof. Farooq Ahmed emphasized upon the need of eco-friendly initiatives and lifestyles for combating menace of plastics pollution and building resilience towards climate change. He said that plastic pollution is a fixable problem, and we can fight it out by our collective and integrated efforts. The staff members including Dr. Gulshan Rashid Bhat, Head, Department of Geography, Anuj Bali (Librarian), Dr. Mohd Ashraf (Urdu Department), Paramvir Singh, Raees Ahmed, Sugra Jabeen and Shafqat Shabir as well as employees of Social Forestry Department including Ghulam Rasool, Mohd Javaid, Zafar Javaid and Mushtaq Ahmed planted trees in the college campus and botanical garden. The Social Forestry Department donated the important plants including apple, Guava, Bottle brush whereas several other important flora were added to the garden by the Department of Botany in College.
