BIS JKBO celebrates World Environment Day 2025 with Green Initiatives Across J&K

JAMMU, June 6: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu & Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO), marked World Environment Day 2025 by organizing a series of impactful activities across various districts of Jammu & Kashmir, in alignment with the global theme "Ending Plastic Pollution Globally."
The celebrations commenced with a Plantation Camp led by Shri Tilak Raj, Director and Head, BIS JKBO, at the green belt in front of SIDCO Park, Bari Brahmana, Jammu-an area maintained by BIS JKBO. The initiative reinforced BIS's ongoing commitment to promoting environmental sustainability and public awareness.
As part of the Standard Club initiative, a variety of competitions and awareness drives were organized in schools across the UT, including essay writing, poster making, drawing competitions, plantation drives, and cleanliness campaigns.
Highlights of the Celebrations:
Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Kathua (2 June 2025):
An essay writing competition on the theme "Ending Global Plastic Pollution" was conducted under the guidance of Mrs. Monika Sharma, BIS Resource Person. Students received biodegradable cloth bags sponsored by BIS, encouraging the use of eco-friendly alternatives.
Government Model Higher Secondary School, Hatli, Kathua (3 June 2025):
A similar essay competition was held, again led by Mrs. Monika Sharma, reinforcing the message of sustainability and plastic waste reduction.
Government Model Higher Secondary School, Dhanore, Kathua (4 June 2025):
The initiative continued with distribution of eco-friendly cloth bags and an awareness session on plastic pollution.
Government High School, Phalote, Kathua (4 June 2025):
An essay writing competition was organized where students pledged to minimize plastic use, guided by Mrs. Monika Sharma.
Government Boys Higher Secondary School (BHSS), Samba (4 June 2025):
A Poster Making Competition was conducted under the guidance of Principal Smt. Anju Bagal and BIS Mentor Ms. Seema Sambyal. Students creatively depicted environmental protection messages, with Himanshu Bhardwaj, Aakarshak Satiya, and Sachin securing the first, second, and third positions, respectively.
PM Shri Government Higher Secondary School, Tethar, Ramban (5 June 2025):
Ms. Mahak Rasool, BIS Resource Person, led an essay competition, plantation drive, and a campus cleaning activity, involving enthusiastic participation by students and teachers.
Kendriya Vidyalaya BSF, Bandipora (5 June 2025):
A drawing competition on the theme "No Plastic Use" was organized by Mr. Suresh Kumar Verma, BIS Mentor. The school Principal also led a tree plantation drive and sensitized students about the vital role of plants in maintaining ecological balance.
These impactful activities, carried out under the guidance and coordination of BIS JKBO, emphasized environmental responsibility and the urgent need to adopt sustainable living practices. Through these efforts, BIS JKBO reaffirmed its dedication to building a cleaner, greener, and more quality-conscious future for generations to come.
