| Decades-old Kashmiri Pandit killing cases may reopen following LG’s initiative | | |  Sanjay Pandita

Jammu, July 15: After the initiative taken by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, cases of the killings of Kashmiri Pandits are likely to be reopened for fresh investigation. Living in different parts of the world, displaced Kashmiri Pandits are hoping that all action will be taken against those who were responsible for the genocide of the community.
In a significant move to address the plight of families affected by terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has launched a comprehensive five-pronged initiative aimed at providing justice and support to terror victims.
The program, rolled out in response to decades of violence in the region, focuses on delivering government jobs, financial aid, and other assistance to the next of kin (NoKs) of those who lost their lives to terrorist attacks.
On July 13, 2025, LG Sinha distributed appointment letters to the NoKs of 40 terror victims during a function in Baramulla, marking the first phase of this initiative.
This action follows his commitment made on June 29 during a meeting with victim families in Anantnag, where he assured government jobs for eligible NoKs within 30 days. The initiative also includes low-interest loans of up to Rs 20 lakh to encourage entrepreneurship, speedy hearings for pending cases, the release of encroached land, and the establishment of dedicated helplines to streamline aid applications and verification processes.
The Lieutenant Governor emphasized the administration’s commitment to dismantling the terror ecosystem while simultaneously honoring and compensating affected families. “We are honoring and delivering justice to the real terror victims of the Kashmir Valley,” Sinha stated at the Baramulla event, highlighting the government’s resolve to ensure no terror-affected family is left without support. He also met with 150 families to discuss their specific needs, ensuring a tailored approach to their rehabilitation.
This initiative has been lauded as a step toward healing the wounds of those impacted by over three decades of violence in Jammu and Kashmir. However, some families of security personnel have raised concerns about the fairness of the program’s implementation, urging broader inclusion. Despite these challenges, the initiative reflects a concerted effort to restore dignity and provide opportunities to those who have suffered immense loss. |
