Early Times Report HIRANAGAR, July 19: The Department of English of Girdhari Lal Dogra Memorial Government Degree College, Hiranagar, in collaboration with the Department of Linguistics and literature, School of Humanities and Liberal Arts, Cluster University of Jammu, conducted a 15-day workshop on translation skills for the Major English students of the college. The program was held from 1st July to 15th July 2025. It was organized under the patronage of the college Principal (Dr.) Pragya Khanna and coordinated by Prof. Bindu Sharma, Head of Department of English, who was the internal supervisor and motivated and encouraged the students to pursue internship in Translation Skills. During the internship period, the instructions (offline) were given by Miss Sakshi, Guest Faculty, Department of Linguistics and Literature, School of Humanities and Liberal Arts, Cluster University of Jammu, under the supervision of Dr. Reena Salaria and Dr Neha Garg. This internship offered students hands-on experience in language and translation. They began by exploring linguistics and translation history, then practiced translating news articles and comparing human and machine translation. They used CAT tools, subtitled videos with Elan(software), and explored localization of ads and menus. Proofreading skills were developed through engaging tasks like "Spot the Error." The students translated a story into their native language, shared challenges, and discussed solutions. Interactive games such as "Back Translation" and "Speed Translation" helped sharpen their accuracy and speed, making the learning process both educational and fun. Online and offline classes were taken to train the students. On the last day, students presented their best work with their final reports. E-certificates were given to all. The internship was conducted under the overall supervision of Dean, School of Humanities and Liberal Arts Cluster University of Jammu, Dr. Reena Salaria, Head of Department of linguistics, and the faculty Dr. Neha Garg, Assistant Professor.
