Srinagar, Jan 3: In the year 2025, Jammu and Kashmir Police registered around 1,000 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and arrested nearly 1,400 individuals involved in the illicit narcotics trade.
An official said that J&K Police acted tough against drug peddlers across the Kashmir division in 2025. “As part of a multi-pronged strategy to curb the growing drug menace, police placed about 170 habitual drug offenders under preventive detention under the PIT-NDPS Act, aimed at disrupting organised networks and repeat offenders operating in the region.”
The official said, “Financial action formed a major pillar of the anti-narcotics campaign, with properties worth more than Rs 70 crore attached during NDPS-related investigations. Over 120 properties linked to drug trafficking were identified and attached, while around 40 properties were permanently seized after completion of due legal procedures.”
“The police also laid special emphasis on ensuring expeditious trials by strengthening the pairvi system. This focused approach led to convictions in several quality cases, with courts awarding stringent sentences of up to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment along with fines amounting to lakhs of rupees,” he added.
Highlighting the importance of professional investigations, the official said, the J&K Police maintained a strong focus on quality disposal of cases and timely completion of probes. “As a result, more than 90 per cent of NDPS cases were disposed of through robust, evidence-based investigations, ensuring that the accused were effectively brought to judicial determination,” he added.
“The strict action against drug trafficking will continue with renewed vigour in 2026 as well. The strategy will include fast-tracking of trials, securing strong convictions and further intensifying financial seizures to dismantle narcotics networks and protect society, particularly the youth, from the harmful effects of drug abuse across Jammu and Kashmir,” the official said. |
