| Illegal constructions within 15 Km of borders to be razed: Amit Shah | | |  Early Times Report
Jammu, May 27: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday directed authorities to demolish all illegal constructions along the Indo-Pakistan border, particularly those located within 15 kilometres of the International Border, while stressing the need for a comprehensive and coordinated security framework for border districts.
The directions were issued during a high-level security review meeting chaired by Shah in Bikaner to assess the overall security situation and border management mechanisms in districts adjoining the India-Pakistan border in Rajasthan. The meeting was attended by senior officials of the Rajasthan Government, including the Chief Minister, top administrative and police officers, District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police from the five border districts of Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Sri Ganganagar and Phalodi. Discussions primarily focused on strengthening border security through enhanced coordination between Central agencies and the State Government.
During the meeting, Shah emphasised the need for a “360-degree security framework” for every border district to ensure effective monitoring and management of security-related challenges. The proposed integrated model will involve local residents, district administrations, security agencies and state authorities to create a robust and multi-layered border management system.
The Union Home Minister reiterated the Government’s zero-tolerance policy towards illegal activities in border areas and directed authorities to take strict action against unauthorised constructions, especially within the 0-15 kilometre belt along the International Border. He instructed officials to identify and demolish all illegal structures that could potentially pose security risks.
Highlighting the growing challenges of infiltration, narco-smuggling and cross-border crimes, Shah called for a coordinated strategy involving the Border Security Force, Narcotics Control Bureau, Central Board of Direct Taxes and state agencies. He said seamless coordination among enforcement and intelligence agencies was essential to curb terror financing, illegal encroachments, smuggling networks and other trans-border criminal activities.
Shah also assigned greater responsibilities to District Magistrates in border districts, directing them to closely monitor financial and commercial activities. He asked officials to ensure complete legal and financial compliance by banks and business establishments, verify funding sources of major enterprises and intensify scrutiny of suspicious transactions.
The Home Minister further instructed authorities to identify and crack down on mule bank accounts, shell companies, and fake Aadhaar cards that could be misused for illegal activities and terror financing. He stressed the importance of preventing smuggling operations and strengthening surveillance mechanisms in vulnerable border areas.
Emphasising the increasing threat of cybercrime, Shah directed officials to ensure effective utilisation of the national cybercrime helpline ‘1930’ for swift response and redressal of cyber fraud cases. He also called for the full implementation of the three new criminal laws to strengthen policing, investigation, and judicial processes in border districts.
The meeting also reviewed the implementation of the second phase of the Vibrant Village Programme aimed at strengthening infrastructure and governance in remote border villages. Officials stressed the need for timely completion of developmental projects, plugging infrastructure gaps and ensuring 100 per cent saturation of government welfare schemes in border areas.
According to officials, the discussions underscored the Centre’s commitment to strengthening national security while simultaneously promoting development and improving living conditions in border villages. The government reiterated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, border security and holistic development of frontier regions remain top national priorities. |
