Jammu, Aug 14: Thirty-eight personnel of the Jammu and Kashmir Police have been awarded the Medal for Gallantry (GM) on the occasion of Independence Day 2026, according to the official list of awardees. The recipients belong to various ranks of the J&K Police, including Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Superintendent of Police (SP), Inspector, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP), Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), Head Constable, Selection Grade Constable (SgCT) and Constable.
The gallantry medals recognise the courage, bravery and exceptional service rendered by police personnel in challenging circumstances while performing their duties.
Among the 38 J&K Police personnel honoured this year, four have received repeat Gallantry Medals, reflecting their continued display of courage and dedication in the line of duty.
Head Constable Rayeesh Ahmad Reshi has been awarded the first bar to the Gallantry Medal. Selection Grade Constable Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan and Assistant Sub-Inspector Mohinder Singh have also been conferred the first bar.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Sarfaraz Bashir has received the second bar to the Gallantry Medal, recognising repeated acts of gallantry during his service.
The other J&K Police personnel who have been awarded the Medal for Gallantry are Waseem Mohi-Ud-Din Lone, Manzoor Ahmad, Mudasir Ahmad, Ashak Hussain P., Kishore Kumar, Javid Iqbal Jan, Sheeraz Ahmad, Surinder Paul, Ishtiyaq Ahmad Reshi, Tanveer Hussain Lone, Mudasir Ahmad Shah, Shiv Kumar, IPS, Shobhit D. Saksena, IPS, Nasir Ahmad, Kalu Din, Adit Kumar Nad, Divya D., IPS, Mohd Usman, Shabir Ahmad Malik, Manzoor Ahmad Ganie, Khurshid Ahmed Wani, Mushtaq Ahmad Shah, Ab. Rashid Mir, Mushtaq Ahmad, Mohamad Shafi Banday, Abdul Rashid, Zahoor Ahmad, Zahoor Ahmad, Pande Rajiv Omprakash, IPS, Dheeraj Kumar, Shakir Hassan, Vikram Nag, Mushtaq Ahmad Khan and Tariq Ahmad.
The official award list for Independence Day 2026 includes gallantry medals for personnel from police and fire services across various States, Union Territories and Central Armed Police Forces.
The entries pertaining to the Jammu and Kashmir Police figure at serial numbers 151 to 188 in the Police Service category.
The recognition comes as the J&K Police continues to play a critical role in maintaining law and order and countering security challenges in the Union Territory. The gallantry awards acknowledge the commitment and sacrifices of personnel who have served in difficult and often high-risk operational conditions.
The Independence Day honours serve as a recognition of their courage and dedication and highlight the role played by the police force in safeguarding the lives and security of citizens. |
