| J&K Police warn: Fake job portals being used to steal PAN, bank details | | | Atul Sharma Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 18: The Jammu and Kashmir Police have issued a fresh advisory warning citizens against a growing wave of employment-related cyber fraud, in which scammers use fake onboarding forms and bogus verification processes to steal PAN details, bank information, and other sensitive personal data. According to the advisory, fraudsters typically lure victims with promises of high salaries or remote job opportunities, often announcing “selection” without conducting any genuine interview. Victims are then directed to fake onboarding portals and asked to fill out forms that seek PAN numbers, bank account details, and other confidential documents under the guise of employment formalities. Police have cautioned the public to be alert to several telltale warning signs. Job seekers have been advised not to place immediate trust in instant job offers, and to avoid sharing PAN details, bank information, or personal documents without proper verification. Citizens have also been urged to independently verify a company’s official website, email domain, and online presence before proceeding with any hiring process. Unrealistic stipend offers and undue pressure to join quickly, the advisory noted, should be treated as major red flags. The police have appealed to citizens to exercise caution while applying for jobs online and to verify the credentials of prospective employers thoroughly before sharing any personal or financial information. Anyone who falls victim to such cyber fraud has been advised to report it immediately by calling the national cybercrime helpline number 1930 or by filing a complaint on the official portal, cybercrime.gov.in. |
