Unsafe synthetic Paneer seized again in Jammu
Endangering lives of innocent people

Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 15: In a shocking revelation that has sent ripples across the region, authorities in Jammu have busted yet another sinister attempt to flood local markets with unsafe paneer. Over 600 kilograms of suspected synthetic paneer, valued at nearly
Rs 1.5 lakh, was seized from a Punjab-bound passenger bus — exposing the dangerous racket of adulterated dairy smuggling that continues to thrive unchecked.
According to officials, the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) J&K, acting on a tip-off, joined forces with the Jammu Police to intercept a sleeper bus arriving from Punjab. What they discovered inside was alarming — 20 cartons of paneer being ferried without refrigeration, labeling, or any traceability details.
The consignment was immediately seized, samples dispatched to the Food Laboratory, and the bulk destroyed at the Jammu Municipal Corporation’s dumping yard. Officials confirmed that the paneer was in a highly deteriorated condition, raising fears it may have been manufactured using substandard or synthetic ingredients — a direct threat to public health.
This is not an isolated incident. Just three months ago, in June, authorities seized a staggering 1.28 tonnes of adulterated paneer from a Delhi-bound bus in one of the largest crackdowns in recent memory. The repeated seizures point to a well-organized network of unscrupulous elements determined to push hazardous food products into Jammu’s markets, endangering thousands of unsuspecting consumers.
The FDA has once again sounded the alarm, warning food business operators to strictly adhere to norms of safe transportation, hygiene, labeling, and temperature control. Officials stressed that failure to comply will invite stringent action.
Public health experts caution that had this consignment reached the market, it could have triggered a serious health crisis, with contaminated paneer posing risks of food poisoning and long-term illness.
The back-to-back seizures have exposed a dark underbelly of food smuggling — a ruthless trade where profit is prioritized over human lives.
