Shah asks J&K BJP to expand base in new areas
Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 7: Union Home Minister and Minister for Cooperation Amit Shah has asked the Jammu and Kashmir unit of the BJP to focus on new areas to increase its tally in the next Assembly elections.
Chairing a meeting of office-bearers, senior leaders, MLAs, and MPs of Jammu and Kashmir, Amit Shah emphasised the need to expand the party’s footprint in areas where the BJP’s performance did not meet expectations in the 2024 Assembly elections.
The Union Home Minister said that the party has the potential to significantly improve its tally in the next Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
Although the next Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in 2029, the BJP has already begun groundwork, with party leaders holding public meetings and strengthening the organisational structure in new areas.
Notably, in the 2024 Assembly elections, the BJP created history by winning an all-time high of 29 seats. However, the party lost nearly half a dozen seats by narrow margins or due to improper ticket distribution.
Sources said that besides focusing on these narrowly lost seats, the BJP leadership has also devised a strategy to expand its base in areas where the party remains weak.
According to sources, the BJP has shifted its focus to the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri to widen its support base. Additionally, the party is concentrating on South and North Kashmir, where the leadership is hopeful of opening its account in the next Assembly elections.
