| Jammu Court calls for senior prosecutor, SIT chief over ‘thousands of pages’ charge-sheet | | Channi Himmat Firing Case | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 15: Taking note of the complexity and voluminous record in the Channi Himmat firing case, the Court of 2nd Additional Sessions Judge Jammu Anoop Kumar Sharma has directed the Director Prosecution, J&K, to either personally argue the matter on charge or depute a competent Senior Public Prosecutor. The case relates to an August 21, 2025 firing incident at a house in Channi Himmat where, according to the prosecution case recorded in the order, an alleged brothel was being run and one of the women who suffered gunshot injuries subsequently died. The incident was initially projected as a road traffic accident before investigation was transferred to the Special Crime Wing of Crime Branch Jammu. The accused are Sher Singh alias Shera, Naveen Bakshi and Sukhbinder Pal alias Babbu. APP Raj Kumar appeared for the prosecution, while advocates Zainab Shamas Watali, Deepak Gupta and Nittan Gupta represented the three accused respectively. The APP informed the court that assistance of senior prosecution officials as well as the Investigating Officer was required to effectively rebut the defence arguments on charge. Observing that the charge-sheet runs into thousands of pages and involves several intricate issues, Judge Anoop Kumar Sharma held that the prosecution required assistance at a senior level. The court directed the Director Prosecution to either appear personally or nominate a competent Senior PP. The Incharge SIT, Crime Branch Jammu, has also been directed to remain personally present to assist the prosecution. Copies of the order have been sent to the Director Prosecution and SSP Crime Branch (SCW), Jammu, for immediate compliance. The matter will next come up on October 1. (JNF) | | |
