Udhampur, Sept 17: Two Pakistani terrorists affiliated with the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) outfit were killed in an intelligence-based counter-terrorism operation in the Brattal-Sohan and Khubban areas of Majalta in Udhampur district during the intervening night of September 16 and 17.
According to security sources, the operation was launched after confirmed inputs indicated the presence of terrorists in the general area of Brattal. Despite hostile weather, difficult terrain and poor visibility, troops of the White Knight Corps, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF launched a targeted counter-terrorism operation.
During the ensuing exchange of fire, two terrorists were neutralised. The Jammu and Kashmir Police identified them as Saddam and Mustafa, describing both as Pakistani Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists.
In a post on X, J&K Police stated that under Operation Soan, the two Pakistani Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists were neutralised. Police said an AK assault rifle with four magazines, an M4 carbine with three magazines, a Glock pistol with two magazines and four grenades were recovered from their possession.
The White Knight Corps, in a separate post on X, said the joint intelligence-based operation was launched during the intervening night of September 16 and 17 after confirmed inputs regarding the presence of terrorists in the Brattal area of Udhampur.
The White Knight Corps said the operation was still in progress, with search and surveillance operations continuing in the area. Security forces remained deployed to track and neutralise any remaining threat.
The operation continued on Thursday, with security forces conducting intensive searches in the surrounding forest areas to ascertain whether any other terrorists were present.
Security forces have intensified combing and surveillance operations and maintained a tight cordon around the forest belt. Search teams are carefully sanitising the difficult terrain, while aerial and other technical surveillance is also being maintained.
Sources said the possibility of another terrorist being present in the area had not been ruled out. The search operation was continuing as security forces worked to ensure complete sanitisation of the area.
