TOP STORY OF THE DAY
BJP leadership under cloud over "selling" tickets for three Assembly segments
11/5/2014 11:57:20 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 5: When angry BJP workers of Kathua alleging that mandate for Kathua assembly segment was sold they have logic because in political circle there is rumour that political and financial considerations while finalizing candidates for the assembly elections. Party has got appreciation for not giving mandates to the seven "tainted" MLAs but party has given tickets to some of the controversial persons whose credentials are doubtful. Even character of the some of the tainted MLAs is good as compared to some of the BJP candidates. Credible sources said that during the last three months a politician was desperately trying to get BJP mandate but party was adamant to induct him. Ultimately he offered some amount to a BJP leader and managed his entry into the party. That politician, who has already changed three parties, was awarded with a mandate at the cost of senior and dedicated leader. Another sycophant BJP leader, who got party mandate at the cost of most dedicated and sincere party leader, had joined National Conference 10 years back. When he joine...

"Why didn't he quit if Cong wasn't supportive?"
Azad corners Omar over his statement
11/5/2014 11:57:12 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 5: Taking a strong exception to the statement made by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that Congress created difficulties for him due to which he couldn't achieve what he wanted to, senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad today questioned the timing and essence of the statement. Azad, also a former Chief Minister of J&K said, "The moment Omar felt that Congress was not supporting him, he should have resigned from the post of the Chief Minister. It is questionable why Omar didn't resign if he was feeling that Congress was creating hurdles in his functioning." He also remarked that when PDP didn't support his Government in 2008, he resigned without any delay on t...

11/5/2014 11:56:55 PM
'Party set to face worst ever defeat in JK history' Early Times Report srinagar, Nov 5: Sensing defeat in the forthcoming assembly elections the National Conference loyalists are deserting the party one by one. The party suffered yet another jolt today when senior party leader from Ganderbal and MLC Sheikh Ghulam Rasool called it quits. "As the party affairs in Ganderbal have deteriorated and people alienated, I could not accept the party mandate to contest election in Ganderbal offered by Dr Farooq (Abdullah) and you through senior party leaders a few days back," Sheikh Ghulam Rasool, a former chief secretary of the state, said in the resignation letter to NC working president Omar Ab...

Party leaves space for pre-poll alliance
Azad, Soz not to contest
11/5/2014 11:56:31 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 5: Showing interest in pre-poll alliance, the Congress party has left some seats vacant in Kashmir valley for its allies. The party finalized the list of candidates with most of the sitting MLAs finding place in it. Interestingly neither JKPCC chief Prof. Saif-ud-Din Soz nor the former Chief Minister and Rajya Sabha member, Ghulam Nabi Azad will contest the elections. However, Soz's son, Salman Soz is likely to be fielded from Baramulla constituency. While Peerzada Mohammad Sayed, Taj Mohi-ud-Din and Ghulam Ahmad Mir will contest from their respective constituencies, the party has decided not to field any candidate from Gulmarg constituency where ...

NC engages RSS in back channel parleys eyeing post poll alliance with BJP
11/5/2014 11:56:14 PM
ET Report Jammu, Nov 5: National Conference has reportedly approached RSS leadership for possible post poll alliance. According to sources a key trustee of the Chief Minister is holding back channel deliberations with the Sangh leadership. The key trustee has been using the service of his close relative in this regard. According to sources, NC is trying to convince the Sangh leadership that it is the only party which can 'safe-guard' the interests of the India in the Kashmir. The party leadership is trying to 'sell' the theory that PDP can't be trusted by the BJP as it has never ever openly criticized the Pakistan and has been doing soft peddling on the terrorism and separatism. After Azad, it's Soz's turn to lambast NC
But coalition Govt is intact
11/5/2014 11:56:06 PM
Rustam Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 5: The Congress continues to remain an integral part of the roundly condemned Government that is being headed by the outgoing Chief Minister and owner of NC Omar Abdullah. It is not only the parties like the PDP, BJP, BSP, Panthers Party or the CPI-M which are dismissing the NC-Congress coalition Government with contempt as anti-democratic, corrupt and anti-people. The Congress, which has been sharing power with the NC since January 2009 and still part of the Government, too, is not leaving any stone unturned to expose the Government as well as the NC. The fact is that JKPCC chief Saif-ud-Din Soz and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Aza...

11/5/2014 11:55:49 PM

Politics, Kamaal-style
11/5/2014 11:52:02 PM
Neha Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 5: The Indian Army landed in Kashmir on October 27, 1947, a day after J&K acceded to India as per the constitutional law on the subject. Ever since then, our committed, dedicated and disciplined soldiers have been defending the borders and securing the lives and properties of the people of the state after making supreme sacrifices. Most of the politicians in the Valley are alive because the Army is there. Had the Army not come to the rescue of the civil administration from time to time, there would have been anarchy and bloodshed in the Valley. Sadly, however, there are leaders in the Valley who blow minor issues out of proportion or make mountain out o...
