SIA launches crackdown against misuse of SIM cards, fraudulent sale by vendors

Early Times Report Srinagar, May 7: In the face of ever increasing misuse of SIM cards by terrorists, their OGW associates, narcotics smugglers and other criminals, SIA in 11 different FIR cases carried out searches of 19 premises spread all over Kashmir. A majority of the premises belonged to Point of Sale (POS) vendors who sold these cards in violation of Department of Telecom regulations and in a manner that amounts to forgery and cheating. In three cases, preliminary evidence strongly indicated that the SIMS were procured to help the terrorists in maintaining their communication with their handlers across the border and other modules inside J&K. For example, one POS vendor in Chawalgam in Kulgam under the name M/S Airtel Micro World created a SIM card against a Non-existent factious person namely Gowhar Ahmad Hajam and gave the SIM card to a person in Qaimoh in Kulgam who turned out to be an OGW of terror outfit Ansar-u- Gazwatul Hind. Early Times Report JAMMU, May 7: A bench of Supreme Court comprising Justice M R Shah and Justice B V Nagarathna has upheld the judgment of J&K High Court whereby it has dismissed the appeal filed by Transport Commissioner challenging the judgment of writ court whereby the writ court found petitioners have been found entitled for regularization of services in accordance with the prevailing rules and regulations. Delimitation Report: STs get their political share in J&K

Early Times Report Jammu, May 7: First time in the history of J&K, the political reservation has been granted to the Scheduled Tribes (STs) population of the Union Territory. Earlier political reservation was granted to STs in Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and Panchayat elections. J&K is the only state in northwest India having a share of nearly 15 percent population of STs. As per the 2011 census, total population of STs in J&K counted 14.9 lakh among them 13.2 lakh are Muslim, 1 lakh are Buddhist and about 67,000 Hindu. Early Times Report Jammu, May 7: Days after the Delimitation Commission on Jammu and Kashmir notified its final report, the BJP on Saturday expressed hope that the assembly elections will be held within the next six months and the party will form the government in the union territory.
