Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 17: Even as daily wagers and need-based workers are agitating to get regular salaries amid unprecedented hike in prices of essential commodities, some arrogant and inefficient Babus are brazenly indulged in spending government money for the renovation of their palatial bungalows. Brisk renovation is going on in palatial bungalows of some bureaucrats, who have done nothing constructive for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, since their arrival in the Union Territory. A couple of these bureaucrats are only concerned about getting more and more luxuries from government expenditure because there is no accountability and transparency in the system. Credible sources said that these bureaucrats are mounting pressure on different departments to renovate their bungalows with imported and costly items. “For the last six months lakhs and lakhs rupees have been spent on the renovation of bungalows of these bureaucrats”, a source said and pointing out that except retweeting some posts these bureaucrats have done nothing since their arrival in Jammu and Kashmir....

COVID-19: JK reports 83 new cases, one death

Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Aug 17: The Government on Tuesday informed that 83 new positive cases of novel Corona virus (COVID-19), 38 from Jammu division and 45 from Kashmir division, have been reported today, thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 323582. Also, one Covid death has been reported from Jammu division. Moreover, 153 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals including 58 from Jammu Division and 95 from Kashmir Division. Agencies New Delhi, Aug 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security this evening, to to assess the situation in war-torn Afghanistan. The meeting was attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. India has evacuated its staffers from the embassy in Kabul, which fell to Taliban on Sunday. Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 17: Lt Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday assured that the two professors, who are stuck in Afghanistan after the country was taken over by Taliban, are safe and will be brought back soon. Mr Sinha said that he spoke to Minister of State (Mos) Foreign Affairs V Muraleedharan and sought immediate evacuation of two professors from Kulgam teaching in a Kabul university in Afghanistan.
