Early Times Report

bhaderwah, Sept 12: Exposing the apathetic attitude of Health Department towards the poor people, one family of far flung area of Ronda village of Bhaderwah today accused a doctor of Sub District Hospital Bhaderwah of causing death of their unborn baby due to negligence. Addressing a press conference , the father of deceased baby Joginder Singh Kotwal told that his wife namely Kanta Devi who was eight -month pregnant, was admitted at District Hospital (DH) Bhaderwah when the condition of patient deteriorated as she complained of bleeding. He alleged that when his wife admitted in hospital one lady doctor present on duty refused to attend her and ordered nurses to inspect the patient also misbehaved with them .
He alleged that when the condition of patient deteriorated further doctors referred her to Doda which resulted into death of her baby. He also alleged that there is no proper facility in the hospital and no senior staff is available while the patients are put at the mercy of nurses and said mostly Medical Assistants and lower staff are seen attending to the patients.
"There was nobody around for help. I asked the one doctor to help me but she refused . He added it (DH-Bhaderwah ) has reduced to a referral hospital only doctors did not bother to treat patient but only refer patients to Doda . Shattered completely Joginder Singh Kotwal broke in tears and said had the doctors timely referred the patient to Doda hospital his baby could have been saved. Joginger and her sister Kamlesha Devi also demanded high level inquiry into the incident so that guilty can be booked.
"We have approached the officials several times, but they are not giving any response. They are just ignoring our plight. It's very unfortunate that they are not giving any response", said Kamlesha Devi . She also alleged that despite fully knowing the serious condition of the patient , doctor on duty did not perform caesarean operation or attend the patient to save the life of the child who died in her womb while referring to District Hospital ,Doda .
She demanded from Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Minister for Health and Family Welfare Bali Bhagat to look into the matter and take strict action against the erring doctor and staff . It is notable to mention here that the new Sub District Hospital at Bhaderwah was set up to provide quality medicare to people of the area.
But it is quite dismaying to note that this state-of-the-art hospital has failed to live to the expectations of people. This is due to a number of reasons which include shortage of doctors and para medical staff. Besides, the patients who can be treated at this hospital are referred to either District Hospital Doda or to GMC Jammu.
The doctors showed inability to treat them at Bhaderwah on the pretext that concerned doctor is not available in the hospital. Mostly Medical Assistants and lower staff are seen attending to the patients. The costly medical equipments are rusting in the stores of the hospital as there is no expert to handle the equipment's.
