BJP's convenient silence on Jammu issues
Mahadeep Singh Jamwal2/10/2018 11:06:40 PM
A storyteller makes up things to help other people; a liar makes up things to help himself. "There is beauty in truth, even if it's painful. Those who lie, twist life so that it looks tasty to the lazy, brilliant to the ignorant, and powerful to the weak. But lies only strengthen their defects. They don't teach anything, help anything, fix anything or cure anything. Nor do they develop one's character, one's mind, one's heart or one's soul" - Jose N. Harris. Same applies to BJP in J&K. Under democratic set up people chose Government of their choice by franchise, the representatives so chosen are required to address the issues that form the basis of voting for the candidate. While it is starkly evident that BJP has destroyed future of Jammuites generation, having run it down into debilitating misery. These fellows are bogged down on the issues of derived importance and are making irresponsible statements to create confusion among people. These people from the ruling party actually believe that Jammuites can easily be taken on ride. Every day the pages of press are full of stories exposing this fraternity for their biased approach towards Jammu but still they do not feel ashamed and always in search of matters to befool the common man of Jammu region. The recent episode of registration of FIR naming an army major is criticized all over the country as a calculated move of J&K government to demoralize the army in J&K. Audaciously the BJP carrying double standards in his DNA and his phraseology is face saving in Jammu region by condemning the act of registration of case against army and on the other hand it has supported it as equal partner in coalition government. The leaders of BJP in center are mere moviegoer to the whole episode and their silence confirms their falling into the loop of pro-separatist PDP in J&K. The BJP was well exposed at the very commencement of this unholy combination for imperious spirit, when the late Mufti uncovered his anti-national consciousness in Jammu and helplessly PM of the country was attending it by sharing the dais. The combination commenced its dispensation with late Mufti and continuing with his daughter Madam Mufti as partners in the ruling coalition in Jammu and Kashmir today. During Atal Bihari Vajpayee's tenure as Prime Minister the saffron party was "distrustful" of Mufti, according to former RAW Chief A S Dulat (A Special Advisor on Kashmir in Vajpayee's PMO after his retirement as Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) Chief). The revelations are in public domain through Dulat's "Kashmir: The Vajpayee Years" book. The book reminds of the Vajpayee's visit to Srinagar in April 2003. Sitting up on the stage were Vajpayee and late Mufti, Mehbooba wanted to join them, but she was politely told that there was no place for her on that stage: as Vajpayee did not want her up there. Daulat further tag in his book that there were grave doubts about Mehbooba in Delhi, about her links with the Hizbul Mujahideen and the help it provided her and her party during the 2002 elections. We also find a posting on search engine as of Press Trust of India New Delhi updated on July 3, 2015 where Daulat termed PDP as a brain child of Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mufti. The author goes on to say that Mufti had attained power with the help of pro-Pakistani separatist Syed Ali Shah Geelani. We do not find any condemnation on the part of PDP of the remarks of Daulat.
If we track the performance of present coalition in J&K, the overall security situation in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in the Kashmir valley, is getting grimmer with each passing day. It could be easily said that reluctance of the oblivious government to respond the emerging situation political and inept handling by the Centre has worsened the political and security scenario of the Valley to an extent where even holding local and urban body elections has become Herculean task. The only remedy left with the PDP government for all problems is to shut down the internet, schools and impose restriction on the movement of people. As far as promises made on the political front by PDP in valley are concerned, its leaders and CM stick to resolving the Kashmir issue and holding dialogue with all stakeholders. The PDP is pursuing its agenda as pro separatists and alliance partner BJP is mute spectator as well as helpless what leaves no occasion as to project itself as daring voice in Jammu whereas it jumps to the lap of PDP in valley. Here it comes to our memory when a senior BJP leader and minister in coalition government has said in Jammu that youth pelting stones at security forces in Kashmir should be beaten and shot at, describing stone-pelting youth as "traitors" and "bullet was the only way to deal with the youth throwing stones in Kashmir". But dare not even to say a single word when the BJP central leadership is quite helping PDP by keeping its barrel on its interlocutor Dineshwar Sharma thereby the state government approved withdrawal of cases registered against 9,730 people involved in stone-pelting incidents. On recommendations of releasing stone pelters the Centre's representative says "My attempt was to change the narrative in the state to peace and for that, I need the support of youths and students". How he is going to change the narrative in state by releasing those involved in crimes, obstructing performance of legitimate duties by pelting stones on army, damaging army/public property taking guns into their hands, putting the government into shackles, is beyond the understanding of the people having senses. It may be the agenda of BJP government to remain glued to power in the state that he has to implement.
When we speak of BJP's poll promises for the people of Jammu, we find and it appears also that its representatives dare not to open their mouth for anything for Jammu people before PDP ministers. Their importance and authority in the coalition stand well exposed when they failed to get the birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh declared as holiday and writing of Dy.CM to CM on the issue was thrown to dust bin. But these Jammu based ministers from BJP still speaks high of Jammu development and never introspect about their position in coalition and in the voters who have mandated them. They must develop a habit of reading the newspapers that are always full of their misdeeds, corruptions, indulgence in transfer industry, their inefficiency and what not. The recent revelations finding space in print media that in a meeting at Chandigarh to review the performance of ministers some central leaders observed that most of the BJP ministers in J&K are indulged in corruption so they could not get guts to oppose pro-separatist policies being adopted by coalition partner PDP. Their all progress on development in Jammu region confined to lanes, drains, upgrading of transformers, inauguration of beauty salons, retail shops, malls, passenger sheds and at the most black topping as these are their regular features to pose for news. On the other the whole lot of BJP MLAs including its ministers is instrumental for bringing down the employment ratio in Jammu from 40% to 10% against Kashmir. But here I am constrained to take pity on this fraternity as the present lot has not won the elections owing to their efficiency or acceptance by voters but they are products of Modi wave. Here few lines come to my mind "Itar se kapdo ko mehkana badi baat nahi Maza to tab hai jb khushbu apne kirdar se aaye". Except few all the ministers are first timer as MLA as well as Minister, so we should not expect much from them being inexperienced and many almost illiterate in the present educational standards of even common man. We can only restore faith in government if the state itself becomes an efficient, effective and transparent ally of the people. Bureaucratic inefficiencies, abuses of power and the misappropriation of public funds must end.
Concluding with the words of Mehmet Murat ildan, a platwright "If your country is governed by the most stupid people, it is vital for you to continue going up personally while your nation and your country is going down because your country will inevitably collapse and it will be in need of people like you, people who managed to improve themselves while everything else was falling and deteriorating!". Perform or perish, the silent word hanging upon these BJP ministers and MLAs but they believe on the saying 'Mein Na Sudhrunga' (I will not mend). They believe they are very smart but actually they are living in bubble of illusion and ego. They have forgotten that everybody sooner or later has to drop the luggage and the baggage of illusions.
