| Killing of Shujaat another black day | | | | Jammu, June 15: Senior journalist Shujaat Bukhari's assaination has left me wondering about the validation of article 19 of the very respected Indian constitution, which states every individual in India has a right of freedom of speech and expression. Do such rights still hold a meaning? Bukhari, a renowned journalist formerly associated with the Hindu was shot dead by unidentified armed men, though he was whisked to the hospital but he couldn't live for long. There's a dash of sadness in the air of country today. The most astonishing fact is that journalists from all over India are being subjected to homicide. There's a news flash every other day about media associates being assaulted, abused, disrespected and attacked. Is this the India Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad or Gandhiji dreamt of? Is this what our freedom fighters had laid their lives for? The people who try to aware the common public about the happenings mishappenings around the world , the one's working in public interest are being murdered. The budding newspapers those who wants to lead the masses towards the right path, need support too. We want to belong to a country who doesn't favour favourism. Why an elite editor is preferred over a new face? Where is the right to equality? Why and for what these state authorities are lingering on and holding back from providing indemnity to those sprout editors working on ground level and those who are in need of it? Public needs an answer, promising and upcoming reporters/editors need an answer, nascent and embryonic newspapers need an answer. Non discrimination and justice to all is what we should learn from such incidents. |
