| Pro-azadi, pro-Zakir slogans mark Eid procession in Kishtwar | | Police finalising draft for FIR | | Asif Iqbal Naik

kishtwar, June 16: Like other parts of the state, the people in Kishtwar also celebrated festival of Eid-ul-Fitr with religious fervour and offered Eid prayers at Chowghan ground Kishtwar in which nearly 20,000 people took part. However, after the prayers anti-India protests rocked the town, forcing the police and administration to start the process for booking the culprits involved in anti-India rant for which the draft of the FIR is being finalized when last reports came in.
As per details available with Early Times, learning from its past experience, district administration and police had made an elaborate security arrangement to thwart any attempt of nefarious and mischievous elements to destabilize peace and tranquillity in the area.
All the entry and exit points leading to Kishtwar town and Eid nimaz venue were sealed by the security forces by erecting barbed wires. Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Angrez Singh Rana and SP Kishtwar Abrar Chowdhary personally supervised the security arrangements and remained present at Eidgah till all the people left while SP Kishtwar along with ADC Kishtwar Kishori Lal followed the Eid procession till it concluded.
Earlier some miscreants from other community stopped the people and hurled abuses at them while they were coming towards Eidgah for the nimaz, as a result of which heated arguments took place between the people and the miscreants. But due to active presence of senior police officers and intervention of the people, the situation was brought under control.
The people also brought the matter into the notice of the Imam Jamia Masjid Kishtwar, Farooq Ahmed Kichloo, at Eidgah who demanded immediate arrest of the culprits and also demanded slapping of PSA against them. He warned the police and administration for any in action.
As per the centuries old tradition, people in the form of procession reached to the shrine of 17th century Sufi saint Hazrat Shah Mohammad Fareed-ud-Din Baghdadi and hoisted green flag. But despite warning from the Imam, miscreants raised pro-azadi, pro-Zakir Moosa and anti-India slogans during the Eid procession while heading towards the shrine. Few miscreants also indulged in heated arguments with members of other community near Ziyarat chowk, but with the timely intervention of some people and police officers, the situation was brought under control.
Earlier during the procession coming from adjoining villages of Kishtwar town while passing through minority dominated areas of Wasser and Kuleed were allegedly abused by few miscreants from minority community. But due to heavy presence of security forces and intervention of a former Sarpanch, the situation was prevented from taking an ugly turn.
As per the clear cut directions from the state and union government to act tough against the miscreants involved in anti-national activities, Kishtwar police is finalizing the list of the miscreants.
Official sources told the Early Times that Kishtwar police is scrutinizing the video and photographic evidences of the Eid procession where some anti-national elements raised anti-India and pro-freedom slogans besides provoking the youths that created panicky situation in the town at the time when majority of the peace loving people of Kishtwar were celebrating Eid.
A police source said there was no question of not registering any FIR against the miscreants involved in rising anti-India and pro-freedom slogans during the procession that followed after Eid nimaz which was attended by more than 4000 people who had arrived from various areas of Kishtwar. The sources said that these miscreants by involving in such act tried to create unrest among the people of Kishtwar. He added that Kishtwar police is taking its time in identifying the real culprits behind raising such slogans. However no arrest has been made till last reports came in.
A senior police officer confirmed to Early Times that one person identified as Ajeet Kumar was arrested by the police for creating disturbance in Wasser and Kuleed areas where he allegedly stopped and hurled abuses on the people coming from village Bandrina and Huller for Eid nimaz.
Meanwhile, nationalist people resented the anti-India, pro-Pakistan, pro-freedom and pro-Zakir Moosa slogans raised by the miscreants in the Eid procession.
Vijay Kumar Wazir, president Rajput Sabha Kishtwar while talking to Early Times said that some miscreants tried to attack their shops at Upper Ziyarat chowk and allegedly manhandled them. He said due to intervention of some youths and police Sub Inspector Mohammad Iqbal, they were saved and situation was prevented from turning ugly. He said that such things will not be tolerated at any cost and called upon the police to arrest the culprits involved in anti-India sloganeering. He threatened that in case the culprits will not be arrested, they will hold protest. He said that they believe in peace and want to live in peace and communal harmony and added that such things cannot be tolerated at any cost.
Later SP Kishtwar and other senior police officers also called on them and assured that the action will be initiated against the guilty persons. |
