| Rape cases pileup in JK courts | | Justice delayed is justice denied | |  Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 16: Despite the fact that there is huge pendency of rape cases registered in courts of various districts, the government is not focussing on fast track trials of rape cases.
Over 2000 rape cases are registered in the courts of various districts. Among all there is pendency of over 100 rape cases in Jammu district as the government has perhaps forgotten to speed up their trials.
Five fast track courts were inaugurated to hear rape cases in the state in the month of January 2013. The High court has taken the remarkable initiative keeping in view the urgency of expeditious trial of rape cases. "Justice delayed is justice denied," read a statement issued during the inauguration of the five fast track courts.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Jammu and Kashmir High Court has sought the creation of eight courts of the rank of district and sessions judge as fast track courts in the districts where there is huge pendency of rape cases.
Since it would take time to create new fast track courts, it was resolved to earmark five existing courts to exclusively try rape cases to provide succour to the victims, the statement said.
PD Sharma, an ex-corporator while talking to Early Times stated that hearing of pending rape cases is not being given so much pace as they should, hence affecting the faith in justice delivery system. And only fast track trial of all the pending rape cases can provide justice to the victims.
Karandeep Singh, chairman Child Care society said that filling of challans in rape cases within stipulated time period and fast track trials of the cases can minimise the pendency of rape cases in the state which would also help the victims to get justice.
Kailash Aithamian, a social worker said: "The early disposal of such cases can set an example in the society which can minimise such crime in future which is actually blot on a civilized society".
Neeraj Singh Langeh, a businessman said that it is the need of the hour to fast track the trials of all the rape cases pending as the number of rape cases is increasing everyday and only fast track of trials pertaining to rape case would provide justice to the victims. |
