Sajad Lone's dream to rule J&K shattered
9/10/2018 11:10:54 PM

Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 10: The dream of separatist turned mainstream politician Sajad Gani Lone to rule Jammu and Kashmir is almost shattered as the legislators of the Peoples Democratic Party who had offered him support seem to have turned their backs towards them.
The PDP rebel leader Javed Hussain Beigh, who had joined the group led by Imran Raza Ansari, on Monday attended the PDP meeting which was chaired by the party president Mehbooba Mufti in Srinagar.
Sources told Early Times that Sajad Lone, who has got only 2 MLAs in the 87 member Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, had conveyed to Bharatiya Janata Party that he enjoys the support of more than 15 PDP rebels. "A notion had been created that Sajad Lone would be the next Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and BJP would support him," they added.
An insider revealed a few BJP leaders in Jammu were working overtime to see to it that BJP high command in New Delhi agrees to the proposal moved by Lone so that they could once again be in the power.
Sources said that top BJP leaders sitting in New Delhi after holding deliberations had rejected the idea of giving the Chief Minister's post to Lone. "The top BJP leaders were of the opinion that if the new dispensation is formed in Jammu and Kashmir then the Chief Minister should be from Jammu region. They had made explicitly clear to BJP's state unit that they should stop dreaming about the power till Lone and PDP rebels agree to the demand of having a Hindu Chief Minister at place," they added.
An insider revealed that senior BJP leader had assured Lone that he would be elevated to the top post if he succeeds in engineering a split within the PDP. "Lone and his friends had almost succeeded in splitting the PDP and had garnered the support of the rebels but his plan did not fall at place as many BJP leaders did not agree with the idea of handing over the reins of the state to a leader, who has recently joined the mainstream politics," the insider added.
A politician said that fall of the PDP-BJP government has brought the cracks within the PDP in public domain and it has been proven that the party has already split and the efforts of the PDP president Mehbooba Mufti to keep the party intact have not yielded any results. "One rebel attending the meeting doesn't mean that Mehbooba has regained the control. Rebel leaders seem to be just keeping their options open. But for time being Sajad Lone would have remain content as a MLA as Chief Minister's office is still very far away," the politician added.
