Rajouri tops poll percentage followed by Kargil, Kupwara district leads in Kashmir First phase of civic polls culminates in JK, 56 percent people come out to vote 10/8/2018 10:36:03 PM Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Oct 8: Like the past the frontier districts of Jammu & Kashmir yet again took a lead with regards to the electoral process with people in large number coming out to cast their vote in the first phase of municipal polls that culminated in the evening today. The tentative figures put out by the office of Chief Electoral Officer, Jammu & Kashmir at the end of polling said that Rajouri district led the other districts with respect to the voting in the first phase of municipal polls. The Rajouri district was closely followed by other districts such as Kargil, Poonch, Jammu and Leh. In the Rajouri district 81 percent people came out to cast their votes in the municipal polls today. Kargil recorded a voting percentage of 78.2 percent while as the poll percentage stood at 73.1 tentatively in Poonch district. The figures are yet to be finalized and the final picture would emerge once the figures are given a finishing touch. Jammu district recorded a poll percentage of 63.8 percent while as the same stood at 55.2 percent in the Leh district in the Ladakh region. In the Kashmir valley Kupwara district led the other districts in the voting during the first phase of municipal polls. Around one third of voters took part in the election process in Kupwara. In the frontier district of Kupwara in North Kashmir 32.3 percent voting was recorded by 4 PM. In the Central Kashmir's Budgam district 17 percent polling was recorded with 7.3 percent was recorded in Anantnag district. Srinagar district recorded 6.2 percent while as the voting percentage stood at 5.1 percent and 3.4 percent respectively for Baramulla and Bandipora districts falling in the North Kashmir. One hundred fifty three (153) wards went to polls in the first phase in Jammu district followed by 59 wards in Rajouri district. In the Poonch district polling was held in 26 wards followed by 18 wards in Kupwara district. In the Bandipora district voting was held in 16 wards followed by Baramulla where election was held in 15 wards. In the Kargil and Leh districts in Ladakh region polls were held in 13 wards each. In the Anantnag district election was held in four wards while as in the Srinagar election was held in three wards. In the Budgam district election was held in a single ward. In a statement issued by Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Jammu & Kashmir Shaleen Kabra in the evening it has been said that the overall polling percentage across the state in the 1st phase of Municipal Polls-2018 has been recorded 56.7 percent.   Share This News with Your Friends on Social Network     Comment on this Story
