NC, PDP leaders enjoy privileges despite toeing separatist line
10/8/2018 10:41:16 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 8: Separatist turned mainstream politician Sajad Lone on Monday acknowledged that boycott politics has not yielded anything during the past 25-years.
He took a dig at the National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party for boycotting the urban local body and panchayat polls. "Peoples Conference boycotted for twenty five years and we experienced its final outcome and results. Let National Conference and PDP boycott for another twenty five years the way Peoples Conference boycotted for twenty five years. Let National Conference and PDP ask its MLAs and MPs to quit their seats in state assembly and parliament. They will come to know what is the final outcome of boycott politics," Sajad Lone said after casting his vote in Handwara.
"Sajad Lone's assertion should serve as an eye opener for the PDP and National Conference leaders, who by boycotting these polls have toed the line of the separatists. Lone, who preached separatism for nearly 25-years realized its futility and joined the mainstream. It's unfortunate that PDP and NC leaders, who enjoyed all the benefits throughout their lives, are sitting on the other side of the fence today. They have ditched New Delhi at a juncture when it needed them the most to foil the nefarious designs of separatists and Pakistan stooges active in the Valley. New Delhi should withdraw their security and ask them to vacate their official accommodations so that they can realize that they are no VIPs," said an analyst.
He said that by boycotting the ULB polls NC and PDP have pushed themselves away from the Centre. "They forgot that whichever party came into power in New Delhi since 1990, it went out of way to accommodate the Kashmir based politicians and met each and every demand which was forwarded by these parties," the analyst added.
A Kashmir watcher said that Sajad Lone's statement has vindicated the stand of all the nationalist people that boycott and separatism are no solutions and by doing so Kashmiris are just putting themselves in more and more trouble. "It's not Lone only who has realized the futility of boycott politics. There are many people who have joined the national mainstream during the past few months and are even contesting the ULB polls. Their message to people of Kashmir is clear that Azadi and Pakistan are just illusions and the people who are selling these dreams are just doing it for filling their own coffers," the Kashmir watcher added.
The NC and PDP leaders, who are living in posh bungalows in Srinagar and are being protected 24x7, would have to revisit their decision to say no to polls again. "If they don't mend their ways both the parties would become history as new people are keen to join the politics. These people want to become a part of the change, which looks imminent," said an observer.
