Will Farooq Abdullah boycott Assembly poll too?
10/16/2018 10:38:00 PM
Did the Congress, when in
power in the centre, handled the Kashmir situation differently than the BJP led NDA Government? There has been no change in the situation during the last 28 years. Militants carry out armed attacks on the police, security forces and this results in encounters in which several militants get killed. The overall security scenario has not undergone any change. Why then the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmnir. Omar Abdullah, has blamed the BJP led NDA's mishandling of the situation for the poor polling in the Kashmir valley. His claim is unfounded that when the two premier Kashmir centric parties, the NC and the PDP, announce their boycott of the ULB polls and with the separatists appealing to people to stay away from the polling booths poor polling was understandable.
And the downtown areas of Srinagar has registered minimum polling percentage. Majority of people responded to the call of the separatists and did not walk to the polling stations. It is so the separatists have carved out are as of influence in the interior of Srinagar and hence the reason for poor polling. Does Omar Abdullah want to convey to the centre that the National Conference boycott resulted in poor polling. W hat about the PDP boycotting the ULB election when it has assured voters support in various areas of the valley? What about the call given by the separatists to people to st ay away from the polling booths/ It was not only because of the NC boycott that the voting percentage was poor. It was owing to PDP's boycott and that of separatists. How is the BJP led centre responsible for poor polling ? If the centre has anything to be done the BJP, when it conducted 2014 Lok Sabha election, the polling percentage in the Kashmir valley was fair and fairer than those elections conducted by the Congress. This means that the BJP led NDA Government has nothing to do with poor ULB polling. Three fact ors were responsible for the poor pertage of polling. One was the boycott announced by the NC, the to her was boycott declared by the PDP and the third factor was separatists calls for boycott of the ULB elections. Now the question is whet her Dr Farooq Abdullah intends to boycott the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections? If he boycotts the Assembly election he may not be able to regain power for the NC. Hence the PDP and the Congress can regain power.
