Contractuals run the show in BGSBU Rajouri
50% posts for teaching faculty vacant

Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 16: The acute shortage of permanent teaching staff in Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Rajouri, is adversity affecting studies of thousands of students enrolled under different programmes.
Sources informed Early Times that against the sanctioned strength of 254 including professors, associate professors, assistant professors, lecturers and tutors, the university has only 124 permanent faculty to run more than one dozen departments, and the remaining 130 posts are lying vacant or were not filed by the university administration since the posts were allotted.
"However, there are 18 sanctioned posts of professors, but the university has only two permanent professors while 16 posts of professors are vacant, with the result that contractual staff has to run the show", said sources.
They said that against the 50 sanctioned posts of associate professors, only 4 were filed while 46 posts are lying vacant.
As per the university norms, the university requires nearly 150 assistant professors to run the departments, but the BGSBU has only succeeded to engage 96 permanent faculty of assistant professors and 54 were engaged on contract and academic basis with pay scale from 25,000 to 50,000. More than 50 posts of non-teaching remain vacant for a long time.
"Despite incessant thrust on part of the Chancellor and Pro-Chancellor of the university to engage permanent faculty during council meetings, the incumbent Vice- Chancellor seems least bothered about it and is busy engaging teaching faculty on contractual basis", said sources.
They said the nonchalant attitude of varsity administration can be gauged from the fact that three posts of principal of Nursing College and one post of COET college have not been file either. Since these colleges came into existence, they have been headless, said a faculty member.
Another faculty member said that since 2014, the university has opened new 13 schools and departments and five new Diploma courses, but for engaging permanent faculty, the administration has nothing to offer, and most of the departments are run by contractuals.
