Kashmir Shivers In Cold, Leh Records Minus 8.7 Temperature

Jammu, Dec 6: The state of Jammu and Kashmir is reeling under the effect of a cold wave.
On Thursday, Ladakh was the coldest region in the state. In Ladakh, the Leh town recorded a temperature of minus 8.6 degree Celsius.
The minimum temperature remained below the freezing point in the Kashmir Valley. It was minus 2.6 degree Celsius in Srinagar, minus 4 degree Celsius in Pahalgam and minus 4.6 in Gulmarg.
The Met department has predicted that the cold-wave phenomenon will continue for some time in the region.
A feeble Western Disturbance has approached the state of Jammu and Kashmir recently. The Western Disturbance as an upper air system is moving away across Jammu and Kashmir. With this, isolated rain activities over Jammu and Kashmir, during the next 24 to 48 hours Sky met weather reported. Although, any moderate or heavy rain and snowfall activity is ruled out as of now.
Tomorrow, the night temperatures are expected to drop by 2°C-3°C over most parts of the states. Day will be mostly clear over in some parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Hills will observe a cool day with light cool winds.
However, an active Western Disturbance is expected to reach Jammu and Kashmir around December 9 which may give light to moderate rain and snow at many places of Jammu and Kashmir . Jammu city recorded 8.8 degree Celsius, Katra 8 degree Celsius, Batote 2.7 degree Celsius, Bannihal 0.2 degree Celsius and Bhaderwah 0.7 degree Celsius as the night's lowest temperatures.
While people are preparing for the intense cold with woolen clothes and other winter essentials, many areas have complained of an erratic power supply.
Government and private schools in Kashmir Valley will be closed today onwards.
According to the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK), winter vacations for the classes up to 8 has been announced from December 6 to March 2 and from December 17 to February 23 for higher classes.
