KUPWARA, Dec 6: One army soldier was martyred after the armies of India and Pakistan traded heavy fire and shelling along the Line of Control in Machil and Uri sector of north Kashmir since Wednesday morning. After Uri, cross-LoC shelling between the armies of both India and Pakistan erupted in Machil sector of north Kashmir's Kupwara district, sources informed ET.
Sources said that the India and Pakistan on Thursday exchanged heavy gunfire at 10:40 am along the Line of control (LoC) in Machil sector of north Kashmir's Kupwara district.
However a top army official said that the armies exchanged massive shelling in Machil sector triggering panic and fear among the residents.
The two armies exchanged gunfire along LoC in Ringpayeen, Tantray and Khan Basti areas of Machhil sector in Kupwara district, the official said.
Meanwhile, Srinagar based defence spokesperson, Col Rajesh Kalia confirmed to Early Times that an army man was killed in firing.
"Cease Fire Violation (CFV) by Pakistan in Machil Sector of Kupwara district at around 1045 hours today," said Rajesh Kalia. He further said that, "Own troops retaliated strongly. One soldier martyred in enemy fire.
While as sources also said that one residential house of Hakim Ali Mir S/O Atta Mir R/O Bathard Kundi Kamalkote got damaged due to overnight cross-border firing in Uri sector of NKR. Pakistani Rangers resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violation in the Kamalkote area of Uri sector and targeted Indian posts with heavy firing and shelling since Wednesday morning, though Indian army responded effectively, sources informed.
Officials from Baramulla district said that the authorities on Thursday suspended cross LoC trade along Srinagar-Muzzafarabad route following the ceasefire violation in Uri sector of Baramulla district. Notably people of the border areas had made demands to the concerned authorities for permanent bunkers so that both property and human lives could be saved, but no heed was given to their requests so for, said Nisar Khan of Kamalkote Uri.
