| Guns derail Kashmir of its peace, says Army Chief | | | | As far as the Army Chief, Gen. Bipin Rawat, is concerned he is right by describing rest of India and not the vale of Kashmir as peaceful. Army Chief Gen Bipin Rawat has exhorted girl students from Jammu and Kashmir to work hard and compete for Army's 'Super 30' coaching programme and build their career through good education. He was interacting with 18 girl students from various schools in the Valley, at the South Block here. "There is no other place like Kashmir when it comes to scenic beauty and a sublime environment. But, terrorism has vitiated the atmosphere," he said. "Unlike Kashmir, you do not see bunkers in Delhi or gun-toting security personnel everywhere. People roam here at night in peace. The Kashmir also had peace and people in Srinagar even used to go for strolling in parks at night or for a movie, but it's not there anymore," he said. In his address, Gen Rawat claimed that "infiltrators come from Pakistan to our side and create trouble". "So, if you also want progress and development in the Valley, take this message from here, and tell the people there that guns are not good," he said.Various militant outfits have been trying to radicalise the youths in Kashmir valley by using different including online propaganda. During the interaction, Gen Rawat asked the students as to what they wanted to become in life. Some replied saying they aspired to become civil servants or police officers or doctors, while only a single student said she wanted to be a teacher. In fact Kashmir has lostits beauty and scenic spots since 1989 when Pakistan embarked on a plan to support Pak sponsored insurgency in Kashmir and then in Jammu region. Since 1989 Kashmir has lost tourist traffic thereby debarring over one lakh people in Kashmir to eke out a profitable earnings. During the last 29 years peace stands derailed in Kashmir in such an atmosphere it is but natural to see the killing of tgerrorists, civilians, and security personnel. During the last 20 months more than 500 militants have been killed which does not include the figure of elimination of militantgs on the LOC and on the IB duri ng their ingress bids.Separatists have sent their wards to various institutions in India and abroad but those who are below poverty line have been forced to join militancy simply to earn monetary gains.Eachday one has to witness encountgers between militants and the security forces and in case milit ants get killed,large crowds surface either at the encounter sites or in the burial grounds where the protesting crwds clash with the security forces and in retaliation the security forces open fire killing a couple of people. There is roar over these killings. But since the AFSPA is in force in Jammu and Kashmir security personnel are not liable to be questioned or to be jailed. |
