| Jammu farmers get peanuts as discrimination continues | | Construction of Semi Ring Road | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 9: What can be termed as open discrimination with farmers of Jammu district, the authorities at the helm of affairs are forcibly trying to snatch agricultural land of farmers and in return are providing them very meager amount as compensation. One such fresh case has been reported from Bansultan village of R S Pura tehsil of Jammu.
Details available with Early Times reveal that National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is paying mere Rs 1.80 lakhs per kanal to farmers affected by Semi Ring Road in Bansultan village of R S Pura while as market rate of land in the same village varies between Rs 50 to 60 lakhs per kanal.
" My 8 kanals of agricultural land is being acquired by NHAI for construction of semi ring road and Government is planning to pay me around Rs 13 lakh (for 8 kanals) while as the same land has a market value of around 4.40 crores.
This is complete injustice with us and authorities are not at listening to our grievances. I am under tremendous stress and if i am continuously harassed and my demands are not addressed i will commit self immolation along with whole family " said Harbans Singh a resident of Malikpur Bansultan while talking to Early Times
The affected farmers of Semi Ring road in Jammu along with famers of Kashmir have now decided to come on roads against the Governor administration once again as farmers allege that authorities have failed to initiate the work on the Ring Road in Jammu / Srinagar inspite of a lapse of 2 years since the land acquisition process began in J&K. Framers allege that neither the construction on highway has been taken up nor have the farmers been compensated as per the market value of land
Farmers have threatened that they will launch state wide agitation from Kathua to Kupwara to fulfil their demands. In past also farmers from Budgam, Pulwama, Srinagar, Bandipora districts came on roads on to press their demands. The farmers have been demanding that they should be paid 4 times more compensation than market value of land. Right now Government according to farmers is planning to pay only stamp value of land plus 15 % jabirana (solatium)
As already reported by Early Times an alternate 58 km highway is coming up connecting outer Jammu highway with Jagti Nagrota via Mishriwala
"The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) pays adequate compensation to the farmers / other persons whose land and property is acquired for construction of highways in other states of India. 4 times in Rural areas , 2 times in Urban areas plus rehabilitation nand resettlement. We also want similar benefits. We have been asking Govt of J&K to enact a new land acquisition law in J&K and repeal its 84 year old law that is being followed even now. I fail to understand why Govt is not at all bothered to listen to us ? We are trying to meet Hon'ble Governor SP Malik ji , but we are not even given an appointment.
