| Mujgund encounter ends with killing of three militants | | | Jehangir Rashid

SRINAGAR, Dec 9: The night long encounter between militants and joint party of police as well as security forces at Mujgund in the outskirts of Srinagar ended this morning with the death of third militant.
Reports said that while two militants had been killed in the gunfight in the late hours on Saturday their associate a Pakistani national was killed today. All the militants owed allegiance to militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and some arms as well as ammunition were recovered from their possession.
Among the slain militants included a teenage militant who had joined the militant ranks only last week. He has been identified as 14 years old Mudasir Rashid Parray, resident of Hajin in North Kashmir's Bandipora district. Mudasir's picture holding a gun in his hand had gone viral last week.
Mudasir's mother had appealed her son to leave the militant ranks and rejoin the family. The video in this regard had also gone viral on social media and in the video Mudasir's mother broke down. Today instead of Mudasir his body reached his home with his parents unable to control their emotions.
Reports said that the firing that had stopped in the Saturday night resumed this morning. The Pakistani militant changed his position and kept on firing on police as well as security forces. As he ran out of ammunition he was shot at and the encounter ended with his killing. An army jawan, an SOG personal and three militants sustained injuries during the encounter. At least six houses suffered damages in the gunfight.
A police spokesman said that a search operation was launched yesterday jointly by police and security forces based on a credible input about the presence of militants at Mujgund area on Bandipora road. During the search operation, the search party was fired upon by the hiding militants.
"The fire was retaliated leading to a gunfight. In the initial exchange of fire one army jawan sustained injuries and was shifted to hospital for medical treatment. In the ensuing encounter, three militants were neutralized and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter," said the police spokesman.
The spokesman said the slain militants were identified as Mudasir Rashid Parray of Hajin Bandipora, Saqib Bilal Sheikh of Hajin Bandipora and one Pakistani identified as Ali. He said the trio was affiliated with proscribed terror outfit LeT adding that incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter.
"The killed militants were wanted by the law for their complicity in terror crimes. Ali according to police records was involved in several crimes and several cases were registered against him including attacks on security establishments and civilian atrocities. He was involved in recruitments in Hajin and Sumbal areas of Bandipora," said the spokesman. |
