Lecture on "Aadhunika Yug Mein Vedon ki Prasangikataa" organised

Udhampur, Feb 15: Department of Sanskrit in collaboration with department of Philosophy organised a lecture in order to discuss the relevance of Vedas in the twenty first century, through the topic "Aadhunika Yug Mein Vedon ki Prasangikataa."
Prof. Vishwamurti Shastri, Director, Sanskrit Gurukul, Katra and former Principal, National Sanskrit University, Jammu was the resource person of the day. He is also well received scholar and writer of Sanskrit worldwide. In his lecture he gave a detailed definition of Vedas, Upvedas and various organs of Vedas and deliberated upon the relevance of the Vedantic principles vis-a-vis burning issues of the current times viz. environment, harmony and spirituality versus science. "We need to understand the Vedas in their true spirit to elevate humanity that is confronted with threatening issues," he added while urging students to look at Vedantic philosophy in a newer light.
Earlier the session began with a floral welcome and lighting of the traditional lamp. Prof. Sudhir Singh, senior faculty of the college presented the welcome address. "Indian Languages are the storehouse of knowledge and going away from them means losing the knowledge base, the Vedas teach the ways of life and their true understanding is a must for a peaceful world," he added. Students of Sanskrit, Philosophy and History attended the lecture.
The programme was compared by Prof. Sanjeev Upadhyay, Assistant Prof. of Sanskrit, GCW Udhampur. The formal vote of thanks was proposed by Prof. Sanjay Kumar, Assistant Prof. of Philosophy, GCW Udhampur. Dr. Ashok Kumar, Prof. Vishal Magotra, Dr. Naveen Sharma and Prof. Shallu Jasrotia also graced the occasion by their presence. The programme ended up with the vote of thanks by Sanjeev Upadhyay, Asstt. Prof. Department of Sanskrit Govt. College for Women Udhampur.
