Early Times Report
srinagar, Feb 15: Militant killings over past few years have frustrated their accomplices to an extent that they want to carry out suicide attacks to derail the process for upcoming Parliamentary and Assembly polls.
As per the figures of Union Home Ministry, the state has witnessed 1708 militant incidents in past five years. Similarly, there has been a rise in the number of causalities. Between 2014 and 2018, 838 militants were killed. As the security forces are killing militants each day, their accomplices are trying to derail polls in Kashmir. "This is new tactic of militants to carry out suicide attacks to derail the democratic process in Kashmir," said a police official. "We are ready to defeat such designs. Our operations against militants will continue. We will ensure that peaceful polls are held in the state," the official said.
The official said that militants know they can't stop people from casting their vote in elections. "They have been harassing the families of policemen. This is a new strategy to create a fear psychosis among policemen and the political workers," he said. The official said that militants have set several panchayat ghars on fire. This all is to derail the democratic process," the official said.
The Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF have been fighting at the forefront along with army and paramilitary with militants. The militants have threatened several times to police to stop from participating in encounters. However, the JK police did not pay any heed to their threats.
IGP Kashmir S P Pani had said that 97 encounters took place in the previous year of which 83 witnessed no collateral damage. "252 militants were killed in 2018. We lost 45 JKP personnel, nine CRPF men and 30 army soldiers. 44 civilians were also killed by militants in the past year," the Kashmir police chief had said in a press conference.
The Election Commission of India team is also expected to visit the state soon to review the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
