Most DDCs furnish vague information

Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 17: As the Public Information Officer (PIO) in the office of Deputy Commissioner Rajouri had failed to provide details about the number of workshops and seminars held in the district on Right to Information Act (RTI), the officer has now provided the details after matter was agitated before various forums.
The details recent details provided by the PIO say that office has no photographs / videos of more than 600 RTI camps / workshops. The PIO has named the villages where workshops / Camps on RTI awareness were held but has not provided photos saying the same were not available.
As reported already information seeker had filed application more than 4 months back but the PIO who is also Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) had failed to respond to information seeker. The DC office Rajouri last year had revealed before J&K High Court that more than 600 (six hundred) RTI awareness camps were held in the district during last 5 to 6 years. In order to get more details about these workshops and awareness camps JK RTI Movement sought complete details of the same under Right to Information Act (RTI).
The offices of Deputy Commissioners of almost all the districts had been caught on the wrong foot as no official record is maintained vis a vis workshops / seminars that were conducted on Right to Information Act (RTI) since the law came into force in J&K around 10 years back. The DC offices have been found to be submitting vague and misleading information before the High Court (HC) where a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) titled J&K RTI Movement V/S J&K State has been filed early this year.
"If 600 plus workshops were held and PIO provided list of villages, how is it possible that not even a single photo or video was taken during these RTI workshops or awareness camps. This is misleading information and DC Rajouri needs to intervene " said Syed Nasarullah a Senior RTI campaigner and legal expert.
