| Power supply partially restored in Kishtwar after 11 days | | Double circuit transmission line under arbitration for 10 years | | Asif Iqbal Naik

Jammu, Feb 18: After 10 days of hard efforts by the Power Development Department, the electricity to Kishtwar District of Chenab valley has been partially restored by converting NHPCs 132 KV transmission line from Thatri to Kishtwar Grid Station into 33 KV till the original 132 KV transmission line from Khelani grid upto Kishtwar was restored. It might take around another one week for restoration as half dozen towers suffered damages due to massive snowfall on 7-2-2019.
A senior officer in the PDD told ET that they have been authorized to draw 400 Amp power which is about 6-7 MW and added that efforts are on to distribute this power on alternatively. He said that City I fitter of Kishtwar town required 7 MW and called upon the people not to use heating gadgets so that hassle free power could be provided to the people. He said that efforts are also on to provide alternative connectivity to Kishtwar outskirts and called upon the people to maintain calm and peace.
In response to the question of restoration of 132 KV transmission line, the official said that the authorities are in direct contact with CMD NHPC and the union power ministry is also keenly watching the progress of the restoration of the transmission line which is likely to be completed in next one week. Meanwhile State own 132 KV double circuit transmission line which will connect Kishtwar-Doda-Ramban Districts with Baglihar power project is under arbitration for last 10 years after the contractor faced some issues due to land acquisition and financial disputes.
The officials at the helm of the affairs informed ET that successive governments failed to solve the issue with the contractor who later moved the court for arbitration. The official said that this double circuit transmission line holds key for Doda and Kishtwar District as the work on around 5-6 power project will be at its peak in next one or two years and the existing line cannot provide the required electricity for Kishtwar District.
The officials also said that during last 10 years, around 4 towers of this double circuit transmission line suffered damages and required immediate attention.
The authorities at the helm of the affairs also turned blind eye towards construction of 440/132 KV Grid Station at Kishtwar which still looks like a distant dream.
The 440/132 KV Grid Station at Kishtwar is key for tapping and transporting electricity from various power projects under construction at Kishtwar as it is not practically possible to transfer the power from each under construction power project to north grid.
The officials said that the matter is already known to the government as well as to the senior officials of the department and the state government along with NHPC and JKPSDC need to take up the final call with regard to construction of 440/132 KV Grid Station at Kishtwar that too in shortest possible time from now as the work on major power projects including 1000 MW Pakal-Dool, 850 MW Rattle and 640 MW Keru power project has begun after inauguration by Prime Minister. |
