BARAMULLA, Feb 23: Vehicle of senior vice president, People's Conference, Abdul Gani Vakil was set ablaze by unidentified protesters in Shutloo Rafiabad area of this north Kashmir district today.
Sources said that Vakil had gone to attend the condolence meet in Rafiabad area, after returning from the area, his vehicle was attacked by unidentified youth, who abused the leader and later set ablaze his vehicle. However the leader escaped unhurt and was saved by his police escort after which he fled from the scene in police gypsy. Sources said that, there were rumors about the death of a local militant from the area, and that is why youth had got agitated and were waiting for the body so that they can offer funeral prayers of the slain militant, but the militant was not from Shutloo area, as police had not confirmed his death yesterday.
The police has registered a case and started investigation into the incident, said sources. It is pertinent to mention here that, two unidentified militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Warpora area of Sopore town on Friday, about which later police said that, the two militants were possibly from Jaish-e Mohammad (JeM) militant outfit. Meanwhile, reports said that at least four Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel and three civilians were injured in a road mishap in north Kashmir's Baramulla district. The accident occurred after a CRPF vehicle collided with a four-wheeler near Pandit Colony in Veerwan due to which CRPF men and civilian got injured.
Meanwhile, Abdul Gani Vakil said in a tweet that, some miscreants netizens are making propaganda by violating the online space by saying my vehicle has been set ablaze today.
It is totally false as i don't have any private car and i have never owned any till today.
My government allotted vehicles are totally safe and functional, said Vakil in a tweet.
