Bhat for massive awareness to make tribal students aware about scheme

Srinagar, June 18: In a bid to extend the benefits of Post-Matric Scholarship to Scheduled Tribe (ST) students, Secretary Tribal Affairs (TA) Department, Abdul Majid Bhat today directed the department to go for a massive awareness campaign so that the tribal students get awareness about the scholarship scheme.
Majid Bhat was speaking during a meeting convened to discuss the distribution of scholarships to the tribal students. Besides, other issues related to the Department were also discussed during the meeting.
The meeting was attended by Director Tribal Affairs, Dr Mushtaq Ahmad; Secretary State Advisory Board for Development of Gujjar Bakerwal, Mukhtar Ahmad and other concerned officials of the department.
During the meeting, Director Tribal Affairs informed the Secretary about the status of the Post-Matric scholarships and the process by which the benefit will be extended to the Tribal students under the scheme, funded by the Central government through Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
It was informed that the Scheduled Tribe students pursuing professional, technical as well as non-professional and non-technical courses at various levels including correspondence courses are eligible for the scheme.
Calling the scheme of great significance, Secretary Tribal Affairs asked the officials to hold the training programs from June 19, 2019 and teach the students for how to apply for the scheme online. Besides, the students should also be informed about the process through advertisements in mass media which includes newspapers, news channels and radio.
On the occasion, Deputy Director Tribal Affairs Kashmir, Nighat Majeed was appointed as Nodal Officer for Kashmir Province while as Deputy Director Tribal Affairs Jammu, Coni Sethi will be Nodal Officer for Jammu Province. Both the Deputy Directors were also directed to visit their respective districts twice a week and monitor the development on ground.

The meeting also held threadbare discussion on the various issues and developmental works concerning Tribal Affairs Department. Construction of shelter sheds on migratory routs, improvement of dokhas, survey of nomadic people were also discussed in the meeting.
